Bitcoin and gfx cards

So, even with 1080 and 1080ti release a while ago, a 980 remained expensive as fk.

Now the bitcoin plummeted, with the mining cut off electricity/profit around 3800$, finally good news for the gamers as gfx cards will be thrown on 2nd hand sites with literally 100'000s if not millions world wide.

Good news!

Be wary getting a second-hand though, cards used for mining deteriorate fast. GPUs are not made to run 24 hour shifts, so if you get one that has been mining for weeks/months it may be shaky.
But how you gonna buy them if crypto isnt worth shit anymore :^)

Doesn't seem to be an issue for those streamers every new POE league start :)

I am assuming you're not being 100% serious, but I still want to elaborate nontheless:
- Cryptocurrency mining is done by running the GPU at 100% with no pause whatsoever, until the GPU simply gives out.
- If PoE actually put your GPU to work at maximum capacity, you'd be able to hear the streamer's PC blaring in the background. Depending on GPU, it might never cap out when running Path of Exile! Certainly won't happen when the player is not actively murdering 50 on-screen monsters; there's a lot of lulls for the GPU to cool down.

There's a very large difference in GPU workload between mining and running PoE.

I do know about cryptocurrency mining, and I agree with what you say. Got a few colleagues doing the cryptocurrency mining, and they do report that it is really hard on their GPU's.

About my comment, no I wasn't 100% serious. But yet, when I saw your previous comment I suddenly remembered a forum thread a while back, made by a guy who works with doing PC/laptop repair. He told a story about this customer of his who brought in a computer for repair as it wasn't work any more. When he opened up the computer, he found that the GPU was fried. After replacing the GPU and testing the computer, he found that POE was installed on it, and joked about it probably being one of those streamers running new POE league 24 hours straight having fried his GPU by doing so.

On hindsight I should have worded my response to you differently. Didn't mean to question your original comment :)
