Last week we talked about the upcoming Hideout changes in Path of Exile: Betrayal. Since then we've received many questions from our community about the unified Hideout system. We have answered some of them in today's news post.

What happens to my current favour?

All existing favour from all leagues will be merged/added together into one number for your account. You will be able to spend it in any league with any character, for decorations that are also shared in a similar way.

Is there a decoration limit in the new hideouts?

All Hideouts will have a limit of 750, same as the old large-size Hideouts (this number doesn't count masters and special objects like the waypoint, stash, crafting bench, etc).

Will all the current decorations be purchasable in future?

We are not retiring any existing Hideout decorations, in fact we are adding many new ones for purchase.

Will I keep my current mastercrafting mods?

There is a new system for mastercrafting mods. They are now individually unlocked on a per-league basis by completing specific in-game tasks for the new Masters. In Standard leagues, it is likely that some players will already have some mastercrafting mods unlocked, but they will still need to unlock the rest by helping the new Masters.

How many new tilesets are there?

We are more than doubling the number of hideouts. We have kept the original eight hideouts from the old masters, and in addition we are creating at least 10 new ones.

How are hideouts discovered?

Some Hideouts appear in specific areas during Acts 1 to 10, and some can only be found in endgame Maps under certain conditions. We will also sell some special ones in the microtransaction store in the future, and may give some out as prizes for events.

Does any map we clear have that tileset as a hideout?

No, only certain areas have discoverable Hideouts. See above answer for more details.

Are we going to be given the chance to save our current hideouts before they're merged into a unified one?

Going forward, you have one hideout from each tileset, fully decorated. You can swap between these at-will. After the 3.5.0 deployment, you'll get to keep all your hideouts as long as they are in different tilesets. For ones that share a tileset, the one with the most decorations is kept.

How will the Master achievement work? ('The Forsaken Masters' - Level 7 Forsaken Masters to their maximum level.)

The old Masters are gone, and we have removed the per-league reputation levels. Instead, each of the new Masters will have an account-wide "Favour Level" that unlocks additional Hideout decorations. The new favour level will be tied to completing specific in-game goals, not general grinding. The achievement will be updated to be awarded for raising the new Masters to their maximum favour level.

Will the old decorations be tied to the new masters?

Yes. All the old/existing decorations will be available for purchase from the new masters.

If we've got level eight in Standard presently, will those be unlocked to buy already?

Hideout decorations will now be unlocked by progression of the new Master's "favour level", which is tied to specific ingame tasks. For example, Zana's level is tied to completing parts of her questline in the Atlas. So players who have completed these tasks in Standard will start with them already unlocked, but it is different per master.

Are the old tilesets staying or changing in anyway?

The original Hideout tilesets are staying, although those Hideouts are all being automatically upgraded to what was their largest size. Tora's Lush Hideout has received some minor changes due to water effect improvements.

Also, all hideouts you had ever unlocked (by getting the relevant old master to level 3) will remain unlocked for your account.

In addition, all Hideouts now come "pre-decorated" with a few free basic hideout doodads that you can keep or modify as you wish. This includes the old Hideout tilesets.

Will we get more fine control over decoration placement?

We are adding the ability to flip hideout doodads (i.e. mirror-image them).

Can we place decorations in sections we can't walk on?

No.

Can I edit a hideout that someone else shared with me?

You can make additional changes to your hideout after importing someone else's saved hideout. Also the hideout data is saved to plaintext for easy sharing.

Can we rotate the map device and have the portals rotate with it?

Yes.

Will it be made obvious which areas you should full-clear?

You will need to explore to find new Hideouts. When you find one, it will be obvious because there will be an NPC there waiting for you. You don't need to clear the entire map, just the self-contained Hideout part of it. There is also a quest in Act 2 to find your first Hideout, if your account does not yet have a Hideout.

Can we move the waypoint?

Yes. The waypoint is now a special Hideout object that can be moved but not reclaimed or deleted. Similarly, the stash, guild stash, crafting bench, and map device are also.

What will happen to the old master benches and the items stored in them?

We'll likely add a command that drops any inaccessible items stored in old crafting benches at your feet.
