looking for build that I can use staff for magic and be able switch to shield for more survivability

I'm new to the game and I've been looking for a flexible build that's kinda like a battle mage but, I want to use a staff with magic and be able to switch to a one handed weapon with a shield so I can have more Survivability when soloing, any help would be much appreciated.
