" Many - but not all - sports are derivatives of wargaming, which is distinctly different from unarmed combat such as MMA. Many team contact sports emerged from exercises performed by soldiers for training purposes, or organized by unit commanders for same, in which the rules were there to ensure soldiers survived to keep going and doing their jobs and/or to ensure that commanders learned the tactical and strategic lessons the games were supposed to be teaching them. Other sports derive from traditional games and festival activities from older cultures, rather than descending from military training. Not that any of this matters. Kind of useless to post in a sports thread and saying nothing save that Sports Suck. The usual thing to do would be to just let the sports nuts have their threads in peace, ne? |
