Tencent has bought Grinding Gear Games
Our Chinese publisher, Tencent, has acquired a majority stake in Grinding Gear Games. We will keep our name but only so you dont associate us with Tencent right off the bat and to keep some people in the dark. We want you to keep buying Supporter packs, so this should be reassuring.

Why Tencent? Why not stay independent?
We have made a living by working hard for a long time, and wanted to cash out. This publisher is willing to offer the most ludicrous sum because of their predatory practices and cut the biggest check to us.

Is Grinding Gear Games becoming part of Tencent?
Yes, but try not to remember that, and keep buying Supporter Packs.

Will Tencent try to change Path of Exile?
No, they will only "strongly encourage under threat of financial ruin" but the changes will come from Us, so we can truthfully answer no to this question.

Will Path of Exile become Pay to Win?
No. Revival coins and respeccing and experience boosters are just a way to bypass a grind and can almost be considered Cosmetic.

Will Grinding Gear Games prioritise the Chinese version of Path of Exile?
No. Special events coming out sooner in China and special Chinese-only services and features are just "in development" for international servers.

Will the Chinese version get some features ahead of the international one?
Yes.

Will I have to have some type of Tencent account to log in?
Initially, no. Not until we figure out how to work around GDPR and start requiring it.

What's next for Ten Gear Games?
The developers getting a retention bonus will keep developing the game. Additionally, our new "In House Opportunities" initiative will attract developers from other TenCent games to our roster while our studio migrates overseas.
