My dog just died

I need a place to share my grief and this will be one of them. I rarely ask this but please no trolling, it's hard enough as it is...

Maui was a beautiful 9 years old (almost 10) beagle. He loved to eat just about any kind of food and was a real glutton for any food that wasn't his usual dog food. He loved to take walks and pee in about 10 different spots every times. he loved belly rug and was playing whenever you'd blow air at his face, trying to lick you in return (which admittedly, he managed to do so on my lips a few times). Mouth farts on his belly made him go crazy. Rubbing his butt could throw him in some kind of frenzy in which he would lay on his back and move his neck/head left and right while also moving his weight around, it was hilarious watching it.

Maui died on april 19 2018 from euthanasia. He was suffering from a thyroid cancer and after meeting with a cancer specialist in the morning, his odds of survival were estimated at less than 5%. Going through with the treatment would have caused him suffering and pain and a high possibility of dying from the anesthetic. Thus, the decision to end his suffering became the only realistic option despite being the most painful one I've ever made. He had lost his appetite over the last few days, had trouble breathing and could barely sleep due to the breathing issues. His throat was highly swollen due to the cancer growing there and creating obstruction on his trachea.

Maui was more than a dog, he was my best friend.

Please feel free to ask any question about Maui, I'll happily answer them. I'll also post more pictures soon.

Thanks in advance for the answers

I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful dog. Maui is a beautiful name for him.
I'm so sorry to hear of it! A beagle was the first dog I ever bonded with (relatives' dog, we didn't have one yet). It is terrible to lose an animal companion. :(

ps. I'm sure you made the right decision. Sounds right to me, but it's never easy. :(
Censored.
My sister recently got one of these and they sure are gluttons for food. Also has a strong personality(at least the one i picked for her) and fun to have around.

R.I.P.

My dog was diagnosed with cancer, i think currently like 9 months ago? We still have him and they are using him as a study case since his type of cancer only appears three times a year and while it has not disappeared it has gone into remission or whats the english therm which is unseen in the field.

I'm basically prepared to lose him any given day and am thankful for each day we still have him.

The way that i cope with it is

- did we give him a solid home?
- did we train him well?
- did he get love and attention?
- Did i ever neglect my duty's towards him?

I answer that with three times yes and a no, which enables me to keep stable because i couldn't and wouldn't have done anything differently if given another chance.

Sorry for your loss faerwin, i hope you take pride and joy from your memory's with him.

Peace,

-Boem-
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
Sorry for your loss, and sorry for not having any great words of wisdom to make it better. Stay strong.

yes, for me it's far more than just a dog, he was family to me and felt like a brother. I cried myself to sleep and woke up crying. It feels so unreal, I'm still looking for him in his usual sleeping spots despite knowing he's gone.

Cherish that time. I had read your post when you made it and I was happy for you and still am that his cancer is in remission. I just wish I could have offered mine the same chance but it was too late.
