Very first playthrough of the game

Should my first playthrough of the game mainly be about just leveling, understanding the basics, and accumulating wealth for a more structured 2nd run?

I started out as a Ranger, and I've been sort of following a Raider tornado shot build, and when I notice I've done something wrong or don't have certain items, I've just been moving on.

I don't really feel like I have enough currency (right now i'm almost 40) to really hit the trading board and get build specific uniques (not to mention I'm a bit intimidated by the board), so I've basically been avoiding it.

Is this a good strategy or am I just wasting time on this character?

Hi, I have some good news for you, over the last few years game has gotten way more accessible with every patch. This means you need to understand very few concepts to be ok.


For character you basically can do any build these days that will clear yellow maps, stop reading redit where everyone plays for 15 hours a day, clearing a yellow map in 5 minutes is absolutely fine. Here is my advice I've played since pc beta and currently in my third xbox league.

First of all set your loot filter in options menu to Neversink semi strict.

Second - forget about trade outside uniques, learning what currency is worth, what rares are worth will take time so leave that for now. Loot filter will tell you if a good unique dropped, dont waste your time checking prices on every unique you find, play the game not trading simulator.

Third - stats for gear are dead easy life and resistance are kings and you can ignore everything else and do fine with capped resistances and 5k life. Your bow is very important, good news is you identify a bow, if in doubt equip it and check how much your dps has changed.

Lastly - Dont craft (yet), use masters. 6 links are for hardcore players but 5 links can easily be done once you save up 200 or so fusings, best to 5 link whatever unique piece your build has either body armor or bow. (if your build has no unique bow or body armor buy a 5 linked evasion chest from trade board should be no more than 10c with life and maybe res.)

ps. before buying any item from trade board make sure its not corrupted!!
