how can i kill elder if there are only three guardians?

It's always 3 guardians i think. you have to kill them all before you can fight the elder.

the fourth guardian is likely on one of the maps you haven't completed yet

Yea it's gonna be Reef or Dark Forest. You can't "see" that far into uncompleted areas on the Atlas .
