[Updated for 3.1] Captain WARLORD's Wild Strike Raider (Multiple Versions)

Last update: Dec 27, 2017

Update notes:

  • Added passive tree images for those having trouble on mobile.

This renowned build has been enjoyed by many so far. It's also my personal favorite to this date.

With 3.1, Vaal Pact got changed. This caused the fear of this build being dead (so I thought as well), but after doing some testing in the new Abyss league, I came to the conclusion that this build is fine after all.

You can no longer facetank Shaper's beam, but everything else seems to be not a problem thanks to the speed this build has.

Info regarding Atziri/Uber Atziri

For both of them you'll need to swap to another main skill because Wild Strike will chain onto the mirror copy and make you kill yourself.

I suggest Frenzy, Double Strike, Frost Blades, Dual Strike or Reave.

Blade Flurry also works, but you'll need to replace Multistrike with Added Fire if Physical based or Cold to Fire if Elemental based. You can also use Life Gain on Hit instead.

This is if you really want to do those bosses. I don't recommend it, but you do you.

Wild Strike is a melee attack that converts 100% of the Physical damage to a random element.

It can launch a Fire explosion, a Cold projectile or a Lightning arc. All of these contribute to fast clearing and a fun, flashy skill in general.

Important: These triggered effects are NOT classified as spells! They are attacks! Spell damage nodes will do nothing for this skill!

This allows you to scale either (or both) Physical and Elemental Attack damage.

Pantheon (applies to all versions):
  • Soul of the Brine King (upgraded as well)
  • Soul of Ralakesh (upgraded as well)

Bandits (applies to all versions):
  • Help Alira

Ascendancy Points (in order, applies to all versions):
  • Way of the Poacher
  • Avatar of the Slaughter
  • Quartz Infusion
  • Avatar of the Veil

For early levels, your focus should be a mix of Life and damage nodes. The faster you clear, the faster you level.

As you progress, damage becomes less and less important due to the scaling from other flat damage sources aside from your main setup. Thus, investing into Life is more important as you will most likely lack these stats on gear. Low level content can still kill you if not prepared for properly. Always keep that in mind.

Depending on the version you use, Added Cold Damage will take priority. You won't have Frenzy charges until you complete Normal Lab, so using Ice Bite would be a mistake since Added Cold Damage scales better. For Physical versions, Cold Penetration is the last link.

High local attack speed (1.8+ APS) on claws is incredibly good. Not only because it scales better with added flat damage sources, but the quality of life high attack speed provides in regards to movement is just invaluable. Claws are the baseline of this build because claw nodes are highly efficient.

Items that can help you progress with ease:

Hrimnor's Resolve is a good workaround until you get the last points from Uber Lab (use a carry).
This will allow you to bypass the need for Anti-Freeze flasks and also prevent surprise freezes.

Wake of Destruction's flat Lightning damage will carry you anywhere until you no longer need them.

Tempestuous Steel will destroy anything until you can use a decent claw.

Tabula has 6 sockets. Need I say more?

This version is based on the original and uses an eDPS claw.

This version scales rather worse than anything else listed here (except White Wind). This is due to the fact that Physical damage just scales better when converted, because you can also make use of Added Damage which translates into way more damage due to its mechanical nature of scaling off the original Physical portion.

Nonetheless, eDPS claws are cheaper because of this and if you got nothing else, this will do. You should always aim for an Imperial or Gemini claw, as both bases provide Life Gain on Hit (which is instant). Don't forget that high local attack speed scales very well here.

This version is based on the new dagger White Wind.

I particularly enjoyed the defensive aspect of White Wind during my test runs, but the DPS drop was definitely noticeable. Since it's a dagger, it has quite the limitations compared to conventional claws, but 20% raw Dodge and 100% increased Cold damage are nothing to scoff at.

This allows for a fairly defensive build, which was especially noticeable against rare Abyss monsters (pre-nerf). With a Stibnite flask equipped, these barely scratch you at all.

This version is based on Touch of Anguish.

Touch of Anguish is a solid claw for this build. It has high crit, decent attack speed and additional Cold modifiers that further scale the added Cold damage we get. You could make use of the Freeze mechanic, but in my experience mobs die fast anyway, so there's no need to skip out on Elemental Focus Support which provides a lot of DPS.

This version is based on The Scourge.

Scourge is solid but should always be dual wielded. There's no reason to use this over a decent claw if you are not wearing two of them. Both claws will provide the additional 70% damage increase and you get cannon fodder on top (the wolves).

This scales better than Touch of Anguish damage-wise, but you lose out on the +46 Life Gain on Hit, which can make the difference between life and death.

3.1

Please take note that videos for 3.1 might take a while as I'm playing another build right now.

Please take note that everything from this point on is based on my 3.0 version of the character.

The claw I use(d) for these screenshots:

Note: The tooltip DPS numbers only account for the melee part of the skill, not all of its components. This also means it won't account for Point Blank's effect on the Cold projectile or any Resistance Penetration/Reduction values.

Added Point Blank to scale the Cold projectile part. It scales only this part of the skill, but the bonus damage seems definitely worth it.

What's your end game weapon setup? I noticed you recommended a couple different weapons.

This is what I used for Shaper. I'd recommend at least a 400 DPS claw (mine has 437), Physical or Elemental, doesn't matter much since Wild Strike converts 100% of Physical damage anyway (modifiers to Physical damage apply before conversion though). I suggest using an Imperial or Gemini claw, as both are endgame claws with Life on hit implicit (adds to your Leech).

I suppose you can use Wild Strike to level anyway. I levelled her a while ago for different builds and then just left her at the side of the road for a while :P

But I will be playing this in 3.0 while everyone else is following the streamer build: Frost Blades.

I think Wild Strike performs better, especially noticeable on single targets, but what do I know.

I'm actually gonna give your guide a go.

I don't like frost blades, it feels really weird to play with early game without any accuracy or anything.

Nice. I have gone ahead and added tooltip numbers in the character section for anyone who's a tooltip warrior (no offense).

Should give you a reasonable estimate of the damage this build can do.

Thanks for build. I wanted to play wild strike this league and then i saw this topic! Played a lot with your cwc firestorm build in legacy league.

Why you need 2 movement skills, whirling blades and shield charge?
