ES is dead. Long live Life? Guess again.

At the current state of beta this is how my life build looks like.
Here are the details.

Level: 80
Increased life on tree: 161%

Life on items:
helm: 64 (using hrimnor for fire dmg and cold resist)
chest: 104 (rare chest max is 119)
glove: 78 (rare, max is 89)
boots: 87 (rare, max is 89)
ammy: 84 (rare, max 89)
ring 1: 78 (rare, max 79)
ring 2: 36 (rare, my own shitty enchant of life, resists are great)
belt: 29+87 (leather rare, max is 99)
Total life from gear: 647
(almost 81 average!)


My total life is: 4755


Tree: (no idea why it says lvl70. I have 94 points total, 79 from levels and rest are quest passives)

Realistically I can take Melding cluster for 15% (4 points) - total 5161 life.
Then Cruel Preparations which is 6 points away for 20%, so at lvl90 I'd have 5535 life, with 196% on the tree.

I know this is beta and things could change, but this is grim. I don't expect GGG will buff life percentages on the tree and the +life on items is already rolling higher than before.

this is why EVERYONE is being forced to take MoM to be able to do late game content.

i am pretty sure noone has tested CI on beta at all.

volatiles were fixed so it's fine with me. I think at this stage almost all the one shots can be dodged (not including crazy maps)

Ugh this is such a thoughtless mantra from one holding a grudge.

Please guys, this response is NOT for I_NO but for others still unsure how to see things. The one thing I urge you is to not just jump on this bandwagon - wait and see what comes out in the meta. It's entirely possible you might be surprised - VP will probably find an entirely different and less prominent place in the meta.

Hm, let me see. I don't like "go build a.... and show me" arguments, so let's try this instead.

1) get a vinktar's flask and run some kind of point blank build (a la barrage or howa SB)
2) make sure your build has enough dps to drop t15 bosses in one chug of vinktar's
3) you'll eventually die to some boss above t13 because you have no defense stats other than life, and when vinktar's is down your recovery is absolutely terrible. Kill em before you get hit? I don't think you can anymore, but time will tell.

Shaper himself might be a notable exception because of the way his laser beam works. But the content leading to shaper, on the other hand, we will have to see.

seriously... even with this kind of recovery, if you're only sitting on 5.5k life (northeast side of tree!), without incorporating a layered defense you're just gonna get demolished as soon as you reach t14. Sure you can probably get to 7.5k(maybe 8k?) with perfect gear in 3.0, and that probably would change things a bit, but most people won't be able to do that.

VP+vinktar's isn't quite gone from the meta but I doubt we'll be seeing it become the prominent choice again for ranged in the northeast and scion. Except notably for people who never plan on going past strands.

Now, until they rework reflect, crit builds are still kinda forced to take VP at certain gearpoints. So here's hoping GGG sticks to their word and gives us a reflect rework.

6000 life is a piece of cake to afford.... for example , 90% of my characters are life based,all end game viable (t16,uber lab,uber atziri,shaper) with some with 9000+ hp.

life always been good but,yes, ask more focus and skills than ES to stay fun.

finaly , with the new life affix on items and the new life master's craft coming , i wonder life based builds will rise on 3.0.

you're right,I_NO, berzerker + VP with 6000 hp are nearly undying beast ...but it seems not everybody knows it...
