I kinda miss this.

It...never was a must have.
As long as you had some regen/resist you were good to go as long as you don't overdo it. No rest for the wicked.

Only time I ever need chaos resist is in Chayula's Domain. Fortunately, I got these bad boys to help me with it:
Otherwise, I run around with -60 chaos res and no regen. Chaos damage isn't scary. My build guides:

Atziri's Promise is all the chaos resistance you'll ever need. It's not worth itto waste any affixes on gear for it.

I think he talks about the first few months of the game, when chaos damage and vaal smash were the deadliest things in the game^^
