PSA: GGG sucks at balance

Dominating Blow needs a..........threshold jewel.

Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

I'm not 'Sarno' on Discord. I don't know who that is.

Frost blade was already an Ok skill

Dom blow is still far from Ok

Gating its buff behind a threshold jewel would only make it Worse
ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

We really don't want a balanced game. Really. We'd be bored with it by now. Take Sex's Dominating Blow obsession. Would you really want a game where nothing was all that different from anything else? Where none of our choices made any difference at all? A game without causes? We wouldn't be here discussing it.

That's not what balance means. Reducing variety is the simplest, most braindead way to get to balance, but it murders enjoyment.

Rock Paper Scissors is a balanced game with zero variety.

If you inject variety into the rules, via:
- If you win with Rock, you win 1 point
- If you win with Paper, you win 3 points
- If you win with Scissors, you win 10 points

... the game is still balanced but now is immensely more variable and fun.

To complete this exercise, now add "Gun" which beats everything and wins 20 points (splits 10 points to each player in a tie). Now the game is imbalanced (there are 4 options and only 1 is ever worth using) and there's no variety (because of that).
there is a total unbalance between rock and scissor in your post.

the real balance with variety is achevied with 36 ways to do something different giving the same result, but in a so intricate way that we dont understand the result is the same.

an example is 1000% more with 0% increased and 1000% increased with 0% more. It does the same thing, but it doesnt the same thing. EPIC.
I will never be good but always I try to improve.

Actually... he's right there. An optimal strategy exists that if both players follow it, it will be fair. The optimal strategy isn't a flat 1/3 chance of each anymore, but if you find the right strategy, you'll not be beat.

The problem with his analogy is that PoE is more of a pastime than a zero-sum game.

You all are forgetting a major thing about those balance choices: the meta and overall balance stage of the game when they were nerfed. Thunderfist, for example, was a very desired item in the meta it was released in and may have warranted a balance pass. Many things, like power creep, changes to how shock works, new skills/items and balance changes to other stuff just switched the meta in a way that stats provided by thunderfist became less and less useful.
But times change, I mean Shield Charge was a meme since open beta, now look at it. You can't just look at balancing trough the lense of current meta.
