New hardware preventing me from playing

Hi.

I recently bought a 4GB RAM card for my PC. The RAM card is a Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600MHz. I installed it with my old card still in, a GeIL Value Plus 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM card.

They are both CL9, but the GeIL is 9-9-9-28 and the Corsair is 9-9-9-24. Both 1.5V.

Since removing the GeIL card, after my PC had booted to both a plain black screen and a couple of BSODs which pointed me to the facts that my GeIL RAM was faulty anyway, and I needed to update my graphics drivers, the games Path of Exile and Paladins: Champions of the Realm both fail to start. I can run Minecraft, League of Legends, and browse/watch videos without any issues.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte B75M-D3H.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro.

I have an 8GB Corsair 1600MhZ RAM card being delivered to me that I will replace the 4GB one with.

Can someone help me find out what the problem is?

Out of interest, is there some reason you're only using a single RAM module? Doing so, your halving your memory bandwidth. Ideally, you should use two identical modules for dual channel support.

That aside, when you say the games won't start, are there any associated errors or entries in the Windows event logs? (for PoE you could also check the Client.txt file, which you can find in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\logs') Also, have you actually tested the memory modules? To do so, use something like Memtest 86+ or MemTest 86

I had two installed for two or three days before the GeIL one crapped out on me and I was stuck with one again anyway. I then had a choice: buy another 4GB and have 8GB, or buy an 8GB and save for another 8GB. Naturally, the latter provides way more potential, so I went with that.

I now have that 8GB installed, I have my PoE up to date on steam, and my graphics drivers are up to date.

The game fails to initialize.

FML.

What do now?

I have no idea what:

2017/01/09 16:38:36 17452078 305 [CRIT Client 4248] Failed to initialise UI::Core with error code 4

means, or whether it's related to your issue. However, it does look rather ominous. For a better understanding of that message you should email support. Did you check the Windows log files?

I'm not really convinced that message is related. Out of interest, did you see any 'error' messages in either the application or System logs that coincide with the time you start Windows or launch the game?

In all honesty, without knowing what the ' Failed to initialise UI::Core with error code 4' message means, we're fishing in the dark. I'd email support@grindinggear.com and see if they can provide any additional insight.

One thing you might try is an integrity check for system files:

1. Open a command prompt
2. Type sfc /scannow - press enter

You could also post the output of a Dxdiag:

1. Select <winkey> + r
2. Type dxdiag
3. Select 'Save All Information'
4. Post the content of the file at pastbin.com
5. Post the pastebin url here.
