Do hits ≠ strikes?

Mechanics question that perhaps someone can clarify. Do hits ≠ strikes or should all hits be considering strikes and vise versa?

So Does effects on hit also works with spells?

yes, but be careful.

There are plenty of modifiers that only say "on Hit" but only apply to Attacks. Example:

Life Gain on Hit gem has a bit of a "truncated name" - if you read the gem description, it specifies "Attacks." So LGoH gem will not work with Spells.

Mods like "Bleeding on Hit" on Weapons are considered Local because the property of dealing an Attack Hit is a part of the normal weapon's base stats. So such mods will not allow your Spells to cause Bleeding on Hit (and I'm fairly certain no effect in the game allows Spells to cause Bleeding, yet).
