A character with this name already exists

I am trying to start the game, but every time i choose a name i get the message

Usually there actually is a character with that name, but it depends on what names you're picking.
When in doubt, add a bunch of random numbers to the end. If it still doesn't work, then it's possible a network problem preventing the name check from completing properly. If it seems to be a network problem, check all your antivirus/firewall/security software and ensure PoE has full access. |

" Probably...in fact almost certainly not a bug, there was over 7 million accounts the last i heard, many of those accounts have 2 or more characters, every name needs to be unique. with that many characters it's unlikely that generic ones will work Ancestral Bond. " It may have freed up some but you have people joining all the time AND players that have maxed out their character slots Also, is that an actual feature? i know they went and freed up the names of those that had not logged in for a year + but i didn't notice them saying that it would happen any time you left the account idle for a year automatically Ancestral Bond. "I think it's automatic. It's account based though so each character doesn't need to be logged in once a year. You just have to have been active. I imagine that by now there are far fewer new inactive accounts than there were when they first freed up names.
