Are pure physical attack builds even a thing?
So, I'm relatively new to PoE. The only chars I got to 80+ to date were two elemental casters, and an Oro's melee. I'm itching to build something with physical attacks for a change (ideally ranged), but no matter what idea I come up with, it always seems to work better if I add some elemental conversion to the mix.
Between all the skills, supports, auras and unique items that convert physical to elemental, not to mention CoC cheese, I'm actually struggling to make a viable build with purely (or even mostly) physical attacks. I'm sure there are some niches for it, but overall it seems like elemental is the way to go. Am I very wrong? |

This is one of the things that annoys me about POE end-game design. The first time I happened upon a "Amazing Physical Wand Build" 2 years ago or so, I was confused because it was talking about how much damage you add from Hatred (Phys Added As Cold Damage) and Added Fire Damage (Phys Added As Fire).* The closest thing would be the new Elemental Focus passive keystone, which increases your elemental damage but makes it so you do not inflict status ailments. At least then you could pretend you aren't dealing elemental damage even though you actually are. You and me. We should start a foundation to get GGG to make true pure phys builds possible in end-game. SOMETIMES WE JUST WANT TO BASH THINGS WITHOUT HAVING THEM BURST INTO FLAMES *EDIT: That counted as a "physical build" because the main scaling was off of your base physical damage. " *Support :) The keystone only removes Crit Mult. ----- Hatred is too powerful for pure Physical to be a thing. Late-game, flasks add to the mix with nonsense such as Atziri's Promise and Taste of Hate. |

I suppose you could take extra curse and run blasphemy vulnerability instead of hatred, that's probably your best shot. If you want ranged you could probably make something decent with puncture, LMP and 100% pierce should give you some coverage. Pierce is getting more projectile damage in the patch too and you can save a slot with lioneye's chest (if you manage to color it properly).

sure they are. I run pure physical build (maybe with some added chaos dmg from some other source rings/etc some of the time, but still mostly physical). You just need to ask youself, what dps you aiming for and how much currency you are willing to spend on the build, because without other dmg added you need some good weapons to do dmg.
Coming this ascendancy I am definitely going to be doing a CI crit dagger reave juggernaut. If I can get a loathe bane, then the guy will do around 170k+ dps pure phys while still having my volls + romira cwdt immortal call setup on, but until then I will have to use a binos :X | |

" It's balancing by spreadsheet again, they probably saw low usage stats and decided to bump it a bit. The gem is very situational but very good where it counts, there was no need to touch it. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
