Blade Vortex needs a big nerf! (because of double-dip, triple-dip and quadruple-dip)
Don't get me wrong: I LOVE Blade Vortex! Such a unique skill... something you don't just spam in the face of your enemies. You always have to choose between "charging" it and running to your enemies. Truly, together with Flameblast and Storm Call I find this one of the mechanically most interesting and well-executed skills of any RPG.
BUT THAT DAMAGE! It is seriously unreasonable! I'm playing this skill in talisman and with crap gear and a three-link (Echo - Poison) I decimate everything incredibly fast. Cruel Piety died in three seconds! I'm playing Shadow and already took all increased duration nodes. I think the main OP'ness of Blade Vortex comes from the triple-dip of the poison support gem: - Poison is based on the physical damage of Blade Vortex, so you take the physical nodes in the Shadow area. - Ah, but wait, Poison further scales with chaos damage. It appears we already took a lot of chaos damage with those phys nodes: win! - We take increased duration nodes for more stacks on our Vortex, hence much more damage. - But wait again, now our poison stacks also last longer: poison again does much more damage: win again! => That's what I mean by "triple-dipping" (2 options to double dip). Everything you take to boost Blade Vortex, again boosts the already boosted poison damage (that is based on Blade Vortex) again. EDIT: ACTUALLY IT'S A QUADRUPLE-DIP, BECAUSE VULNERABILITY ALSO WORKS DOUBLE: THE INCREASED PHYS DAM WORKS FOR THE BLADES WHILE THE DOT DAM WORKS FOR THE POISON, BASED ON THOSE BOOSTED BLADES! DAMN THE SYNERGY IS GOING THROUGH THE ROOF!! In PvP CI are still getting decimated though, so even without the crazy poison support (which easily translates in 100% more damage from my calculations), Blade Vortex still seems incredibly strong. But in PvP it's easy to balance OP skills: just add a PvP damage reduction and it's fixed. I love Blade Vortex! I'm enjoying it so much this league. But I'm afraid that if it stays in its current state, we will only see Blade Vortex builds anymore and lose that sweet build diversity. Please nerf it GGG, before I get too addicted to that crazy damage! Last edited by Soepkieken#7149 on Dec 18, 2015, 5:22:58 AM

So, you cleaned cruel. Congratz, you are pro!
On a more serious node: ALL skills in PoE that are used in close range are A LOT stronger then range skills. In Example: Lightning Tendrils and the counterpart Arc The main reason is risk vs reward. You are closer to your foe's and thus, you are rewarded with better DPS. Now, that doesnt count till the end of merci, when mob really start to hurt you. You will see. Welcome to the greatest of arenas, Duelist. God is watching you.

" I cleaned cruel about 50 times by now, and NOTHING ever came close to the clearing speed I had now. " I leveled with both already once. They are good: true. Leveling with Blade Vortex is at least twice as fast still. " I know that. But you don't need a lot of investment offensively, so I can dedicate myself a lot towards my defenses. Offensively, all I still need is a 5-link to add Controlled Destruction and Concentrated Effect (which will more then double my DPS) and leveling my Blade Vortex gem. Starting to use Vulnerability will again double dip my damage (the physical part applied to the blades and the DoT part to the poison. So actually it's a "quadruple dip"). In the passive tree I'm going all defense now: Acro, Phase Acro, some Evasion, Scion life Wheel,... . => All I wanted to say is that even if I'm just at the end of Cruel, NO BUILD I ever played the past three years felt so overpowered and easy. I'll come back here when I'll be mapping, maybe things will be different, but at least they already should nerf the lower-level damage for sure. Soep, what troubles you? Whats the reason for you to not allow people enjoy playing that gem?
If I dont reply to you - I dont give a flying duck about your opinion
If you dont reply to me - I dont care either because I dont come back to see who replied to me |

" I don't care about what others do in this game, I'm a solo player (but also PvP occasionally). What bothers me the most is that I'm playing this gem myself, and I will get so used to the OP'ness of it in time that every other skill will seem inferior, hence killing the game in the long term for me. Don't tell me to just play another skill already now before I become a DPS-addict, because I'm mentally too weak to resist this crazy damage. By the way, I really like Blade Vortex mechanically, I'm just honest that I feel like cheating just by using it... . Anyway, this evening I will cheat some more! ;-) Last edited by Soepkieken#7149 on Dec 18, 2015, 6:09:53 AM

I timed my malachai kill in cruel with vortex.
2 minutes and 46 seconds, including first phase and all animations/audio's. I expect a nerf early game, probably a base crit reduction to 5% but the same scaling at end-game. Peace, -Boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

" Except Chris just came out and said they are refraining from doing big balance changes during challenge leagues. So, yeah. I expect Bladefall/Vortex to stay around as the resident Flameblast/Incinerate replacement for quite some time. | |
It's not that strong. My SuperNova build is way stronger center on caster type a spell. And I have like 16K DPS in my Blade Vortex build in sig. Overrated Franky. You never played OP builds before to say Blade vortex is OP.
