DoT/chaos question

Unique dagger "Consuming dark" has a mod that makes chaos damage poison mobs.
So I wonder how this is going to work with new DoT spells like contagion and DoT part of Essence drain.
I am not very familiar with game mechanics so I couldnt figure it myself.
Does spell have to HIT to proc poison with Consuming dark? Does DoT tic counts as a HIT for this case?

Poison is an on-Hit effect. Damage over Time does not Hit.
DoTs in this game do not tick.

Based on how poison currently works you would likely have to deal a Hit to deal poison damage (and because DoTs don't tick, they don't Hit). Currently, most poisons are based on initial Hit damage. But you can never be 100% sure how future skills work.

But we can be 100% sure of how The Consuming Dark works! :P
So basically, dots dont proc poison, while chaos spells with on-hit part(converted fire, essense drain 1st stage, phys spells with ming's, etc) will proc it?
Yep. It'll scale with any Chaos and Physical Damage dealt, so even without Ming's it would work for Physical Spells. Sauce for Phys/Chaos, in case you're curious. :)
Dear God. I should read forums more often. I have missed that thread.
My life have changed. Just now. I will never be the same.
