Vaal orb on a unique

I got curious as to what happens if you use a Vaal Orb on a unique.



In each case the item got an additional mod without changing its current properties. In the case of the Meginord's Vise the sockets didn't change. Is this typical? Or Falacy of small numbers, the changes can't be predicted?

Using a Vaal has a 25% chance to grant a new implicit. The other possible (equally likely) results are to produce one or more white sockets, turn the item into a rare with six random mods and random sockets (with an increased chance compared to normal that it will be fully socketed and linked), and doing nothing whatsoever except corrupting the item.
