Minion Fire build
Hi all,
I'm almost new on this game, so I'm very noob :P I'd like to level up a witch like this:

as wrote in title the idea is to have a lot of minion and spam with fire spell with a lot of %chance for burning mobs.. could this work on end game? :) thanks for your help! Last edited by swaix#4014 on Feb 11, 2013, 7:13:34 PM

My two cents.
First of all, while the skill planner allows for 110 or so skill points, in-game it's a little different... The current enemy content goes up to lvl 66 ... Meaning getting to Level 70/75 is a more realistic and attainable goal than getting to LVL 100... If you really farm all day and repeat the lvl 66 Endgame Maps, you can probably get to LVL 80 or even 85 , but honestly, I doubt most people have the patience to grind that long.... That means more like 80-90 Skill Points to spend (Accounting for the skill rewards from quests), depending of your dedication. In that regards, your setup is a little too spread out. I also thing it's probably lacking in terms of Mana (Especially if you intend on running multiple auras to buff your summons) and perhaps in regards to HP. As someone whos's putting the finishing touches on a LVL 64 Pure Summoner using Firestorm as a backup Nuke for his minions, my feeling is that summons are pretty strong on their own in most cases if you get all nodes, the exception probably being end of act bosses on mercyless, where they can often get decimated unless you're running multiple auras and have them leveled quite high (Thank god for skeleton totem and your very own survivability in those cases) . Having some offensive capacities on your character is great, I personally run Firestorm, Freezing Pulse, Arc and Artic Breath, but they do pretty average Damage because i'm not dedicated into using them (Less than 500 DPS) . Then again, I haven't really tried gimping the spells to max their potential, I have about 60% Spell damage on my Wand, Less that 20% On my skill tree and my firestorm is linked with stuff that doesn't even increase it's dps (Life Leech and Item Rarity)... Overall , my feeling is that it's probably easyer to to boost your Spell Damage using linked Skill Gems and items with % Skill Damage than to keep Non-Optimised Summons from dying. I Could Add a + Skill Damage Shield and other specific gear pieces to my setup and attain more reasonable figures If I felt like nuking... Throw in a couple good support gems and I could defintively deal decent damage on foes without having spent much on spell damage nodes. So my point is, basically, to be wary of too much hybridisation... Cause nobody wants to end up with paper thin summons that are constantly destroyed, next to no survivability and spells that fail to do enough Dmg to be comparable to what the rest of the party is dealing. I'm thinking about making a Fire/Summoner Witch based on high damage fire spells + meat shield MI summons. I would start with something like this.

Rush important nodes: Lord of the Dead, Fire Walker, Immolation.

After that there's a few different routes you can go. These are the main clusters to shoot for. Get MI after you have Spell Totem+Summon Skelly IMO. Important Nodes Blaze Additional Minions Divine Toughness Useful nodes Minion Life% Life% & Energy Shield% Cast Speed Spell Dmg% Avoid Minion % Dmg (You're blowing them up with MI anyway) These routes are very flexible. There are lots of mana, life, dmg, & energy shield nodes along the way. Grab what you need. Take nodes that are already on your path to important nodes (use skill points efficiently). Note: This is a fire dmg build with minions as a meat wall/distraction & extra dmg. If you want to be a necromancer with support fire spells you would follow the paths to key necromancer nodes. Hope that helps. |

I was working out something similar before finding this post. Making builds based on 75 points makes a lot of sense, especially for a casual player like me.
Anyhoo, this is the Minion/Fire build I came up with. Mine was built with Fireball, Firestorm, and Anger in mind. My concern is that I don't have much invested in Max Mana and was hoping that my Regen rate coupled with Soul Siphon would make up the difference. I readjusted my build for a run down to Blaze which made for some hard choices =/ Edit: In review I also have concerns that more Strength might be necessary to get more out of my skill gems. If I have to do that, will have to cut out the run down to Blaze =/

" 40HP is better if you roll blood magic and stack a huge amount of health nodes, if you're not doing that take the SP. |
