Germany last place with zero points once again.

The Big5 should participate in the Semifinals.

Germany, United Kingdom, France and Spain deliver horrible songs year after year unless they pay an US Songwriter and so on to do the stuff.

They should remove playback and sing live again. Then we will also see failures like Israels "Be Happy", that's the only way it can be worse than a song having the charm of a icy desert.

It was a lot of work, but we finally did it !

I mean Gratz to them :)

Talking about French perspective, Eurovision is not liked there and none really watch it. The songs are always chosen by TV jury and the only reason we are participating are some political stuff with Europe and our culture ministry.

I wish the big 5 would just cancel their participation and let other countries pay for this stupid tv show.Let s see what other countries will do without the Big 5 paying for their freak show.

GG Australia.

Italy did't participate between 1997 and 2011 I think.

Nobody here really cares about the Eurovision in Germany.
When Germans still cared they tried to get trolls or the most stupid participant into the finals, because there was a disliked songwrite who featured the preminilary winner most of the time just to fail in the finals. Now he is writing songs for several small countries and fails in seminfinals.

Sometimes it worked and the irony was that the obscure acts received more points that the singing refrigerators. The committee even made rules that the singers must have sold records or won a wildcard, because in the years you must you had to sing in your native language and everybody could register a song there the semifinalists had laughable participants such as:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98LpNCNrOZM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZH86ufaAUM(They actually got 4th or 3rd in the preminilaries)
If you want a good laugh just ask there were several abysmal semifinalists. But since they all go playback, autotune now such failures won't happen again.

The ESC is also not popular here.

The only reason left for Germany to participate is that this is the last show left under the Eurovision tag.
In the past there was "Jeux sans frontières", some shows also broadcaster to Austria and Switzerland, Rockpalace(in the late 70s and 80s), some overly long entertainment shows that either got cancelled or the Eurovisiontag removed.

So yeah the only reason to keep it here is also a prestige reason.
The show is artificially kept alive.

There aren't reasons left to watch it. The show isn't about music it's about an act/performance on stage.
The voice is enhanced and the song is playback.

The original idea of the Grand Prix de la chanson was show other countries national music(meaning you needed to sing in your national language), when the cold war was going on and the means of communication didn't exist.

Now we have internet, the TV is an old medium and the oolc war is over for 25 years.

They might as well let every country in the world participate if they want it and just call it World Song Contest.

Russia will take over the show then. Russia puts a lot of money and effort to win the contest every year.

We need more Lena.

That winning song was written by Julie Frost aka US Songwriter. The next year she failed because the song was written by Monica Birkenes.
When Russia won they hired Timbaland.

Hiring US Songwriters and Producers always ended up with good scores.
The ESC is a songwriter contest to begin with.

What are songwriters you know in Germany? Bohlen(same stuff everytime), Alex C(same stuff everytime), Siegel(now trying to win ESC for small countries).....
Not single one was successful outside of Germany.

There are 2 ways to score in the ESC. Either have a song that is different and has edges or do an outstanding performance.
US Producers and Songwriters know that.

the hell is eurovision? a singing competition?
Officially a songwriter competition in Europe.

But yeah a singing competition or better a performance competition because you forget the songs after some days already.
Eurovision is just a massive European circlejerk containing a lot of small circlejerks like Balkan block giving each other points, Soviet block giving each other points etc.

Also the German commentator (Peter Urban) is always butthurt about that and he was especially butthurt about Russia almost winning this year because Putin is Satan and so on. It is a lot of fun especially if you watch it with friends (my friends are very diverse so there is a lot of banter going on between the nations). You just shouldn't take it too seriously as a song contest because most of the songs are shit.

Oh and Australia was invited because apparently there are a lot of Australian Eurovision fans and it was the 60th anniversary of the competition.
