poe needs to promote the use of more skills

typically character builds focus on having 1-2 main skills, and the other gems they have are for movement skills, auras, and cwdt. having 1-2 primary skills makes the game become very repetitive if you play every day. maybe a good way to promote the use of more skills would be to make it cheaper to craft 6l items, so then you can have two skills linked to 4 support gems. Otherwise, unless you have a 5-6l wep and armor, you can only have a single skill with 4+ support gems and the rest of your skills have to have 3 support gems. another way to improve the use of multiple skills would be to make skills better in general. maybe increase their stats so they don't need so many support gems to be powerful enough. i'd also like it if the game had magic/rare/unique skill gems as well with variable mods on them.

another way to add variety to skills would be for linking skill gems to be able to enhance each other. for example, maybe every skill gem would consider other linked skill gems as support gems, and when you use one of the skills the character uses every skill linked. so if you link double strike - dual strike - reave, if your character attacks with double strike they will then attack with dual strike and reave, and repeat the series again. the result would be more powerful skills and a variety in how your character plays.
Ummmm... no
It would then be like Diablo 3?

This isnt your typical chinese mmorpg where you have to spam like 20 skills.
imo, the use of more skills with ONE char is all up to the players.

e.g. #1: my bow-shadow uses

- split arrow with fork to apply a curse
- tornado-shot with gmp for mob-groups
- puncture with chance to flee for rare´s and bosses
- blink arrow and lightning warp for movement and when opening boxes
- frostwall (no joke) for protection, especially against bosses

e.g. #2: my cold templar uses

- glacial cascade as main damage source
- ice nova when surrounded by enemies
- cold grasp for the nice looking hand which arises from the ground and the freeze ofc :-)
- frostwall for protection, especially against bosses

to me it is just plain boring to use only ONE skill and there is simply no need to use only one skill to get save through endgame

This is weakness of gem system because you get more powerful more u link and spam to same skill. VS other games whos spam compliments each other.

I was fond of D3 spamming like 5-6 skills with WW barb and CM wiz but this game can be like that a bit.

pots are a big spammable here.

Builds like tri elemental trapper do major spam

Then there are the buffs like Immortal call (manual) and curses.

It will never be like other games because of the gem system though.

Cant have everything.

No, it's your (a)typical erpegee where you spam the same one skill for 500 hours... much fun.

I'd welcome more tactical combat, with the possibility to use more than 1-2 combat skills per char. Currently at higher lvls you need to spec heavily into 1-skill spam.

Maybe 2.0.0 warcries and innability to automate EC on cwdt, will bring more tactical combat (for melee, ranged will still spam TS)

E:
The lack of gem slots can be somewhat circumvented by "gems in this item are supported by X" uniques. There will be more of those in 2.0.0 it seems. Ofc, besides outright providing more slots (2 on belts)

You have to buff HP 10x or reduce damage by an order of magnitude to have tactics.

Try atziri or some maps with a 1 or 2 link. You will see what I mean. There is plenty of tactics to be had but developers feel it gives players most enjoyment to blow through mobs without a fight.

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Chance_to_Flee:
Magic monsters have a 50% chance to avoid fleeing for any reason, and rare monsters are immune to this gem's effects.

might switch that out then.
