About the Build

A multi-purpose CI build that is easily interchangeable, from dual wield or shield, reave to flicker, dual strike to double strike, Hatred to Discipline.

Damage wise, the aim is to maximise single target DPS, and the overkill feeds the burn from a proliferated HoA.

Auto-cursing from HoT allows free flowing gameplay without the need to stop and cast spells.

Defense is purely ES stacking and extreme ES regen from Bino's + Zealot's Oath:

Zero to full within a second. This is on top of instant Blood Rage life leech with Acuity (optional).

Reflect is managed with Physical to Lightning, turning pure physical skills (DS/FS/Reave) into a ele/physical hybrid.

2 Variations:

DS/Discipline
7974 ES
279k DPS

DS/Hatred
6606 ES
342k DPS

Equipment

Equipment Notes:

Abyssus is not used and not required. The Abyssus lacks ES and with the added physical damage intake, it runs the risk of physical reflect death.

The aim of this build is to set a new standard for CI tanking, and the combination of high ES and and even higher ES regen makes death come only from poor luck.

The chest piece used is definitely GG, but using this chest:

ES is 6447, which is perfectly feasible.

Reave Shield variation

Swapping a few gems is all it takes to become a standard CI Reave build.

Flicker Strike Variation

A simple exchange between 2 gems that are already on the character. Every piece of equipment is the same.
Discipline

Hatred

Some ES regen Calculations

Acuity life leech per crit:

Physical damage per hit:

838-2300 (main)
464-1387 (bino)

avg combined = (3138+1851)/2 = 2494.5

crit multiplier = 2494.5 x 600% = 14967

Blood rage life leech = 14967 x 10% = 1496.7

Acuity penalty = 1496.7 x 60% = 898 life leech per crit

----------------------

Acuity life leech per second:

898 life leech per crit

chance to hit = 86%
crit chance = 95%
aps = 6.3

86% x 95% x (898 x 95%) x 6.3 = 4391 life leech/sec

----------------------

Combined life multiplication (anecdotal):

Bino's ES regen = 5500 (avg perceived)
Acuity life leech = 4391

total: 9891 ES/sec

At any given moment, the ES regen should be around 10k/sec while attacking

Chronicles

I started this character from scratch and here is the path of my travels

lvl 30

Obviously a twink character with stuff from my stash.

From the very beginning this character was about AoE burn, Molten Strike was the skill of choice at this time because of the extra dps of the lava balls. Clear speed was fast and levelling was fun.

level 30

lvl 36

At this point i took a crazy plunge into CI. Not recommended

From a healthy 850 life down to 150 ES, I wouldn't do this again.

Changed all the equipment:

- upgraded to mightflays
- PC generation from 5L Volls
- The unset ring i'm using was very helpful! -6 mana cost was huge at this level

Levelling from here was painful to say the least and death was common.

41 points

lvl 39

Here i transitioned to Cruel, so decided to work on survivability with CI by maxing resists and adding some mitigation.

I managed to stay ahead of the clear speed curve and maintained very good dps, which offset the low ES.

44 points

lvl 45

After getting 3 crucial ES nodes from the wheel, it was time to begin the race to Unwavering Stance and drop Chayula. By doing so, i would be able to equip some dps amulets.

54 points

lvl 56

This is the transition to Merciless. And also the point i take Unwavering Stance and drop Chayula.

Around this level you can start using some good pieces:

- decent rare daggers
- Rainbowstrides
- Geofri's Crest

68 points

Alternative 1h+shield

Double Strike replacing dual strike
WED replacing multistrike

lvl 65

Forgot to add an inventory here.

But this the level where Bino's is available and begins the end game portion of progression.

By this level, i timed my passives to collect Zealot's Oath as the same time.

So many strikes within one breath.
But only one strike needed, for certain death.

Ooh, this looks nice. So this is what you've been levelling now.

As always, great build. Eagerly waiting for videos. I'll take a look at the tree when I get on the laptop.

For try, for see, and for know.

Thanks Ether, I've been planning this for a long time, saving currency to get good CI equipment to start.

I built this character from scratch and have a detailed levelling guide planned.

Just like my other guides, this one will slowly shift focus to a cheaper version with the only expensive pieces will be a Bino's and a 5L/6L chest.

Hey fiqst, I just noticed, is there any specific reason you didn't take assassination for the crit multi?

Also, what are your thoughts on getting an auxium and dropping the lower marauder area for say, duelist/ranger?

I see what you mean by saving currency...dat gear. Mind=blown.

Hi Ether, I'm going to spend the next few nodes completing the ES wheel, which will give me a further 600-700 ES. Assassination will be the next cluster, but will render one power charge one too many so I may have to drop one.

Unwavering stance is a necessity against stun locks so there's no other choice, unless I waste the amulet slot for chayula.

Auxium is used to counter freeze locks, so it's something I'll consider if I have problems with cold damage.

-so maligaro is beter than acuity here? (cuz i cant afford accuity)

-getting the resist on only ring+belt_ammy in Torment league might be hard, I will go with the shield version with resist on shield!!

-do you have an idea of the DPS with out such an astronomically overpower dagger? and with out 20% quality gem?

If you replace acuity with maligaro then you will only regen ES on kill, right? Because of the bino's mod. I don't see how maligaro could be better than acuity for this build. Am I missing something? If there is a misconception, please enlighten me. Interesting build btw.

According to the stats, i do 27% physical damage compared to 73% elemental. This is perfect for reflect management but poor for physical life leech.

10% physical life leech from blood rage
60% acuity nerf

= 1.62% life leeched per hit with acuity equipped

The tooltip at full charges is 287k which works to be 4.6k life leeched per second.

Bino's poisons on hit (not on kill) for 10% of the damage that caused the poison per second for 2 seconds, we get that number back as ES regen.

This number averages at 4-5k and can go above 9k on occasion. So most of the time the Bino's regen alone can regen from to zero to full in less than a second.

Acuity only benefits from the diminished physical damage dealt at a low rate.
The Bino benefits from all the damage dealt at 10% per second for 2 seconds.

Bino's is always "on", regenerating ES for 2 seconds while you're in between attacks, chasing down enemies or frozen.

Both together is ideal, but I truly believe that the Bino's alone will be more than enough for all situations.

So equipping Maligaro's makes sense, not only economically, but the added damage serves the Bino regen even more.
