Do you have to hit with Mjölner?

Do you have to hit with the Mjölner weapon itself for the 50% cast to work.

Never had one personally, but on hit is always associated with attacks and not spells, so I would assume this applies here as well. You can't gain life from spells when you use "Life gain on hit" so if consistency through the text means anything then no, it requires you to hit the target with an attack. Someone with experience with the weapon feel free to correct me.

Must be an attack. Lightning strike for AoE, and molten strike for single target are the go to skills.

if Curse on hit works with spells, Mjolner should too, if not-not :D

" That gem specifics "enemies hit by attacks" though. Spells hit, at least the poe wiki says they do. I doubt the Mjölner works with spells, as SL4Y3R said, but I'm not sure. It seems if the description is read as is it should work with spells but that's POE technicality for you. |

like you said it yourself, LGoH gem is "enemies hit by attacks".
on the same basis, you have to hit things with an attack with the hammer, to trigger the lightning spells, just like Slayer wrote. I know text in PoE can be inconsistent, but in case of spells it usually says that explicitly. for example, here: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Cybil%27s_Paw Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

OP is correct btw, the way it is worded suggest's any source that "hit's" will proq the ability.
And since spells have a hit chance of 100% they do actually "hit" the target. Just like the way this item is worded Suggest's ethereal knives will gain 800% more damage if the character remains unarmed. Peace, -boem- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
