*New to PoE* Templar bow build, need clarification plz

I just started using Kripp's templar bow build, but I have a question. Since you cannot improve on dex until a later level, do you use melee weps or just use crappy bows until you can spec into more dex? Again I am very new to the game so please refrain from any noob-related comments because I know that I am. Thanks for your time.
