Wand Base Types for Spells/Attacks

Wands and Dagger both share a huge pool of possible affixes they can roll. Daggers seem to be a bit more likely to roll attack affixes while wands seem more likely to roll spell related boni (not entirely sure on the different chances though).
In terms of different uses: daggers have slower variants with high global crit boni well suited for caster builds and the faster, high dps/low global crit ones that are better suited for attack builds. Wands, however, all have only spell damage boni.
This means that for a spellcaster it makes almost no difference at all what base type the wand is as long as the itemlevel is high enough to roll the desired affixes.

My suggestion would therefore be to change some of the existing wand types implicit mod to something that benefits builds that use wands to attack. There are many possible ways to do this but my basic idea is something similar to as it was done for one handed maces/sceptres and one handed swords. It would also be great if the attack based wands were a bit more likely to also roll attack based affixes instead of spell based ones but that might be asking too much ;).


Some ideas for the possible implicit mods on the suggested attack based wand types:
- incr. attack or physical damage. global or local (easy way out, simply switch 'spell' for 'attack')
- chance to pierce
- chance to knockback
- incr. global crit multiplier
- incr. projectile speed
- mana gain on hit or leech from attacks with this weapon

So, what do you guys think about the general idea as well as the examples for new attack related implicit mods on wands?

Just read the patch notes for 1.2 and it seems that bows are getting a lot of love. A flat 11% damage increase as well as several different implicit mods to better suit different builds. Additionally, several physical damage high level unique bows got a huge buff.

Hopefully wands will get some love too soon! (and hopefully at least 1-2 physical damage uniques too some time)

This would definitely be good. It's absurd how difficult it is to roll a good spellcaster wand, and rolling a good physical wand is even harder.
