Good that you type the self-contained within "" because it is truly not self-contained. The standard economy affects the temporary ones due to specualation of how much an item is worth once it goes to standard.

The economy is not self-contained other than using GGG's very weird definition:P.

Do people really care about how much an item is worth once it goes to standard if most of the challenge league players always play the new ones (and very rarely play standard?)

As an example of how little it can take for Standard economy to affect the economy in temporary 4 leagues: it only takes one person who cares about standard to change the price of a niche unique.

A clear example of this was the "Gift from above" market in Nemesis league. Back then, if you were interested in Standard it was far more efficient to farm currency in Nemesis to buy "Gift from above" to then die with it and sell it in standard compared to farming in standard.

One could this way pay 1 exa in Nemesis to get 5-10 exa in standard. This massively affected the "Gift from above" market in Nemesis.
