the latency in town varied but was non responsive for long periods where the latency stays at one value.

is there anything else I can try?
Hey Gh05t5,

Hmm. while your WinMTR report does show some packet loss, this is very minor compared to the issue you are reporting. You may need to find the IP address of the instance server you are connected to when you have this latency issue and run the WinMTR to these servers. You can find these instance servers by opening the client.txt file in your Path of Exile/logs directory.

The bottom of the client.txt file has the most recent entries, so the next time you experience your latency issue be sure to check the client.txt file for the server, and run the WinMTR to this server while you are in-game.

Additionally, do you always experience this issue at the same time of day? Do you have latency issues whenever you play in the evenings?

Thanks Yeran,

I keyed ip of the instance into WinMTR from the log as per the post above. The one before was the gateway. Yes evening NZ time are bad, I was playing earlier today and it was fine.

Thought Id give reinstalling a try but 'cant connect to patching server', Ive seen the fix for that before so will look that up now...

Patching server is terribad:

Edit: oh wait, there are multiple patching servers, I may have the wrong one...
Double edit: set a different patching server using--patching and its in progress now.

Hey Gh05t5,

Hmm. Unfortunately it's hard to tell where this issue is occuring from your WinMTR, but network spikes during certain times of the day are usually indicative of your ISP prioritizing certain traffic. During peak times (such as evenings when everyone is home from work/school) the internet can get throttled a little bit so the ISP can make sure everyone has the same speed and isn't missing out.

You are welcome to let them know of your concerns regarding this, and they may have alternate plans that will not throttle your speed during peak times. Alternatively, if you share this network with any other users, this can cause network slowdown aswell. Be sure to also turn off any programs that may be using your connection while you test this, and run your newest WinMTR to pathofexile.com as this may indicate the cause of your issue.

another week on and still some instances lag where others will not. Lag will result in dc's. WNMTR appears ok even to a server Im lagging on. this part seems wierd

spoke to my ISP, they led me to believe my plan is not prioritising any traffic. tried another router same issue. definitely an issue in he evening NZ time and not the morning.

I would really like to resolve before the new leagues as I dont want to play HC like this.

saw another post with the "lag Mountains" looks similar to my in game ping.

Empty instances appear to be better i.e. chosing an ampty instance of town makes t less likely to have lag/dc's

Halp please, what can I try?

If you're only having issues during evening/weekend times, chances are that your issue is a congestion issue with heavy traffic. This can happen when you have large areas of people routing through 1 or 2 nodes. Those nodes become overloaded and it creates congestion (just like rush-hour in cities with cars). The more cars (packets) that are on the roads (internet lines), the heavier the traffic is going to become and it slows down everyone.
I would agree with your summation if my ping was generally increased. But where a town instance is unplayablat 2k ping why will my docks instance happily sit at 50 and below?

I've actually have had this problem before too where certain instances were much more laggy than others even when I was soloing.
Specifically the town instance where sometimes the delay between clicking and item and it sticking to the cursor could be several seconds.

Also having lag spikes in Australia gateway too.
