Good Duelist Build for New players?

hello, i'm very new to this game, i made a shadow that got thru normal mode without many problems, but is struggling a lot on cruel mode probably because i messed up the passive tree. Now im looking to make a duelist cuz the typical sword and shield melee class appeals to me, so i'm wondering what are some good duelist builds that a new-er poe player could play?

I'm not very experienced but I have one character to whom I dedicated most of my time for now. Although it's not a duelist (its marauder) but it's based on using a shield+1h sword and it got me to 85 with my only problem being spell monsters.

Uses more points than you are likely to see on your first attempt, but it's generic 1-hand + shield with plenty of life, block and resists, to compensate for poor player / self found.

And, just opening the other link now, surprisingly a lot like the generic mara build.

1.1.0e changed searing bond totems, nerfing then in relation to the lower lvl's of the gem.

And, it isn't the cheapest, most itemindependent build.

so are you saying dual totem searing bond is bad?
and if this isnt the cheapest build out there then what is??

I wouldn't go as far as calling it bad, I'd just say that it has been nerfed, all the while demonstrating where you can examine skills and stuff.

It requires a fast weapon and 2 aura gems. Gets better with elemental dmg, but does dmg. just with the auras.

Great beginner guide for new and experienced players. Unfortunately it's a marauder, however, this build will carry you far if you so wish.

Also, one of my first builds when I started and has great offence while still retaining tankiness. The author is great and explains everything to the T. Replies often and updates it regularly!

The same thing with the unique mace Marohi erqi. Hitting something in the face with that puppy tends to induce stun.
