How do you mirror?

The other day I was doing first contact with crafters, and I was wondering how mirror services sare done. And how should be done.

1- You give crafter a mirror, appealing to his honestity and/or reputation among the community.
Then he mirrors the item, and trade you the mirrored item for the fee.

This is what I've seen the most. But... you are giving a free mirror to a strange, what if they scam you?

The chance doesn't seem high as credibility for crafters, is usually more valuable than the mirror. But from the perspective of someone whose whole playing time is worth around 2 mirrors, it can be very hard to trust.

One of the crafters said "You can always report to GGG, this is my main account". Has GGG stated somewhere they secure good faith in those kind of trades? I though they didn't go into trades, if you have pressed "accept" it's your fault for doing so.

2- Crafter mirrors the item (with a mirror he owns), then trades you the mirrored item for your mirror and his fee.

This seems the more logical thing, but I haven't seen anyone doing so.

3- Crafter trades you a similar value item for your mirror, then proceeds like 1-

This seems pretty logical too, but the problem comes from the words "similar value".
It won't never be same value. So either the crafter or the person using the service assumes the risk of under/overselling the item. Still betther than 1- though

4-??????

They usually give you items equal to the value of mirror. If not, go to another mirror guy.

Reputation is worth a lot more than a mirror in most of these situations. A LOT more.

Long live the new Flesh
1) is generally the case.

this

I wouldn't mirror anything from randoms without reputation, even if they have a few vouches (and by vouch, I mean linking mirrored item in post, not just saying "thx for service") it's still not worth it.
Now assume a non famous crafter, so take nº1 out of the question. A ring with 6 T1 (not necesarily the best) would do it as a guarantee? Any chance for GGG to get involved into it (either by punishing it, or by being a 3rd man in the trade)

i don't think so.

after all, why should they? they just provide the game which is of a competitive nature. building up trust among the player base is a task a player must do himself.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
The threads I've seen that explained in detail all went with #3. He gives you collateral, you give him the mirror + the fee.

As for #2, not everyone has spare mirrors just sitting around. Also, if he mirrors his item, then you change your mind, he's left with an item he might not sell for a very long time.

Well, they have a tool called trade where you can exchange items, instead of just throwing them on the floor and hoping the other guy to do the same.

I'll go with 3

Do scam trades happen often? I've never seen anyone post about it.
