Vaal Cyclone Bumped Me From Server, Character Rolled Back

So I'm farming City of Sarn merciless. I've done this for hours and hours without issue. Today I pop a vaal cyclone on a moderate sized group of enemies and it instantly bumped me back to character select. No big deal right? When I logged back in my character was rolled back a significant amount of time. I lost a ton of XP and currency. I had a full inventory of unid'd rares and an unid'd legendary. All gone, nowhere to be found. Why would a crash/disconnect bug roll me back so hard? How is this fair? Does your system not save characters more than once an hour?

The server saves periodically whilst you are outside of town but i'm fairly sure that it saves often enough that you should not have lost any significant amount of EXP(like every 5 minutes or less)...usually any items that are lost in mini roll backs are the ones you picked up in the last few minutes i've not heard of a full inventory getting emptied because of it.
