Let's talk music...

When I enter a game, the very first thing I do: kill ALL sound.
Usually (and thusfar I haven't seen a single exception to this, save for Diablo 1) ingame sound is howwible.

I enter the game, and I start up WinAmp.

I listen (depending on my mood) to preferably Black/Death metal (from Venom over Deicide/Morbid Angel/Impaled Nazarene (I am Catholic, go figure)) to things like Crebain/Aura/...) and Punk a la The Exploited (Cop Cars, anyone? XD ).
I can also easely go to Heavy Classical (Beethoven/Bach/... (not many of the lighter stuff)) over Heavy Opera (Wagner/Karl Orff (Carmina burana anyone?)/... (also not so the lighter stuff)) to 1950's-1990's, some specific older songs, albeit that I less like to not like much of the more modern things (most simply sounds too "perfect" or "edited", nowadays even the worst voice can "sing" in a studio, which makes me question the terminology "art" in music).

I can put on bagpipe tunes an entire day, when I feel like it, or run some Eminem (and the likes), or blues, or Japanese Drumming (Kodo), or, or...

Basically, I like everything, except Schlager (German/Dutch... noise...) and Jazz (has absolutely no "red line"/story that I can follow).
Also Jazz is too "emotionless" (and this for a light-autistic fart, how about that?) for my taste...

Well, that's it for me, how about you folks?
What do you play/like?

I am astounded that you called jazz emotionless.Especially the 60s and 70s movement.Sure it can be over technical and over complex(polyrythms in fusion music can make meshugah seem like 1rst grade in rythm education),but it is pure emotion.

Other than that, the music i prefer is mostly jazz, jazz fusion, blues, flamenco, clasic rock, progressive rock, clasical music from late beethoven to early 20th cenctury-mainly Stravinsky.I was never deeply into metal, besides the ultra clasics like sabbath, metallica, priest, maiden savatage and some erly dream theater

Now, I do have to say: I live in Belgium.
We Belgian have aboutish the very best Jazz musicians in the world (or so I am told), but DANG, it drives me insane.
It's bloody experimental, methamatical, soulless.
It's nothing more than a display on just "how good one is in classical musicianship.

To me, it's like church music falling down the rabbit hole.
And by God... down there?
Well, you probably know Alice, right? XD
On top, there is no bass in there.
I'm not speaking of contrabass bass, but earthquake bass.
Sound so deep, you feel it rather than hear it.
Not to mention drum: drum in Jazz is basically "Tsssk. Tssssk. Tsssk."
Those wirething drumsticks stroking cymbals.
No BOOOM. BOOOM. BOOOM (floor tom, note), just "tsssk. tsssk. tsssk."
God.
Irritating to me.
To my taste (and we all know: De gustibus non est disputandum!) music needs BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM, save for Classic, Opera, things like that.

And thus per rule, I tend to stay away from Jazz as far as possible.

Now, you spoke of 60's and 70's Jazz.
Do you have exapmles, Brother?
I'd like to try those.
With your kind permission, that is.... XD

Meanwhile I hope you can enjoy Beethoven, Ludwig van - Symphony no. 7 in A major, Op. 92 (2nd Movement).

I listen to jazz mostly.

Swing
Dixieland
Light
Big band
etc....

When you dismissed all jazz its a kin to dismissing all of Rock because of Pop. There is a lot on your list I listen to too. Can't stand most metal. I do actually have some, but its rare.

EDIT: was saving this one for I_NO the next time she gets frisky, but....

I mostly prefer the most challenging jazz, the one that introduced by miles and coltrane, and then was evolved in the hands of guys like john mcluaghlin, chick corea, allan holdsworth, instead of the old swing style.Even though i love gupsy swing, especially Rosenberg Trio.Geerally i like jazz that incorporates more european styles, and more world music within.

Xorgoroth, fusion music involvs some very heavy electric bass, and some serious hard hitting drums(dennis chambers),but by your post i think you won't like any of it.Belgium for sure has a strong jazz scene, including a great greek-belgium bass player who was a student of jaco pastorius himself(the greatest electric bass player of all time). He did an awasome frank zappa tribute lately

When I enter a room, the very first thing I do; walk over to the sound system and put on one of my favorite gaming soundtracks. Srs.

Sometimes when I'm gaming I like to mix it up a bit and use soundtracks from different games, like I enjoy the Morrowind soundtrack for PoE mapping, but generally gaming soundtracks are great for setting moods, it's what they are usually made for.

Also, be nice to jazz pls, some of it is cool. <3

Exaples?
Well, I didn't say Jazz is bad, I said I don't like it.
Quite a big difference.
And I am aware: De gustibus non est disputandum.
You can't discuss taste.
It's... taste...
What is fine to the one my be bad to the other.
But to my taste... no jazz for me.

I tried Daddy, btw, still too Jazzy for my taste.
Lack of bass, mainly.

Here's a nice song (Neil Young - Walk with me (Le Noize album)) with a tad of bass.
Do throw the bass on the equalizer open and push the volume till the knob breaks of.
'sWhat I do... XD

Woofer Wrecker, be aware:

MWAAHAHAHAHAH... this one's pretty evil, nearly lost a window there.
Note, I run 2 equalizers, serial linked, with the bass fully open...
Madness really...

Jazz isn't all the same. It's like saying Rock and including everything from REM to Pirate Metal and screamo stuff.

If you like classical stuff, I strongly encourage you to look up Jacques Loussier, a French guy that plays classical jazz. Brilliant :)

Here's an old recording of Bach's Air: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14AhD3xdoMk&feature=youtu.be&t=30s

Edit: And I approve your dislike for German Schlager. Horrible stuff :D

When i'm playing, I put on my "random playlist" that has a bunch of different songs in different genres. It is mostly game and anime soundtracks mixed in with some rock/progressive, J-rock, but certain soundtracks can have various genres of music within them which is why i call it random.

I also like to listen to extended songs of my favorite game soundtracks.

Here are some examples:

Bravely Default - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2JMtP35Kkk&index=12&list=PL6V3Xw-Fn4hFERrZiQge4kqHIOqz0WF2G

Final Fantasy 8 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU5c7-5xG-o
