Could u guys help me out!?!?

Im new to this game and I have some questions.

Atm im leveling a marauder. I use lightning strike as my main attack.
But i use a gem that gives ife back for each attack. So if i hit with my lightning strike do i gain life from that?

And if i level up a passive skill that gives me more damage with one haned-melee weapons, i also do more damage with my lightning strike?
(so would it be pointless to put points in one handed damage if im focusing on lighting?)

Im asking this because i want to focus on lightning and dont want to waste skillpoints!

Shouldn't be that hard to try out, but I am pretty sure it does.

Lightning Strike is an "Attack" skill so it does benefit from Life from Hit. If you look at a gems description, it will say if the skill is an Attack or some other type.

As far as I know, the melee attack of Lightning Strike will benefit from any physical damage bonuses you have (like the one handed melee bonus). But the projectiles (or lightning bolts) which the skill fires DO NOT count as melee attacks so they do not benefit from any MELEE bonuses. But they do benefit from both physical damage and lightning damage bonuses.
