Dual Wielding wands: How to make them viable for maps?

and not just on dried lake, I'm talking about going down to Palace Dominus with your wands crossed doing a cool pose.

it really seems like too much effort to do it, with very little gain compared to a shield. the only wand I've considered for your offhand would be moonsorrow, but is Blind really worth it?

There's also Dual Wielding Void Batteries + CoE, though I think you'd need a lot of base physical on your gear to pull it off, not to mention that it's incredibly inefficient and expensive.

Going 2 x wands brings no benefits at all, as it alternate hands. Besides that there are no good offhand wands to support the primary weapon. Moonsorrow is terrible it will cut your actual dps to pieces and provides nothing. And finally, you'll lose defences from block and ES gain from the shield. For nothing.

That's right, it's pointless. though that's why I was asking though, if someone actually made it work, despite that massive negatives of not having a shield.

The correct statement would be not yet. At least, not until a skill comes along that makes use of dual-wielding wands or a unique that enhances that sort of playstyle.
A dual strike thing would be cool. Dual shot? It does what barrage does to wands really, but barrage is utterly insane, making dual shot have to have a decent AS or damage (generic?) steroid. Generic due to having both elemental and phys wands.
The only current reason to dual-wield wands is for dual-wield passives.
The only good dual-wield passive clusters for wanders are Dervish, Twin Terrors, Blinding Speed, and Gemini.
Even with all of that, wand+shield is almost always better.

Hopefully the upcoming dual-wield rework will make dual-wielding better by default. Wanders really like attack speed since it has such a huge damage synergy with flat elemental damage, and elemental hit may make a come back (with tons of flat elemental damage and crit chance per quality).

I haven't done a dual-wield wander since... oh... early 2012. It would be awesome to do that again.

You are entirely correct, and as pneuma says, I do hope the Dual Wielding rework is going to affect wands in this light.

I've already mentioned dual void batteries with CoE. I did a little bit of computations, and it doesn't seem to be worth it. 450 dps on your default attack at 7 power charges and additional physical flat damage to match something given by an Abyssus seems bad.
