[Official] WINE info thread

I use debian jessie; no problem here with playonlinux and wine 2.21 staging 64bit
Thanks for all the input here, i got this game finally running. I still must fix some performance issues.

Playing with pol/dx9/ex/11, i cant stop thinking the possibility to have it on vulkan-api instead. Or even more sinister possibility of a native linux version of the game!!!

Linux use is going up so it would be a good invest for the coming year. Thumbs up we have 6-7% market share in the end of 2018.

Thanks for the help exiles.

PS. Btw anybody else running rx480? hows it rolling?
Hello fellow non-windows users.

I've manage to get PoE to run pretty flawless in Ubuntu 16 with wine 2.21.
2-3 man party's works like a charm, my only problem seem to be that after a few hours ( depending a lot on how much shit happens on the screen ) the graphics starts acting up and i know it's time to restart before game crashes and sometimes it crashes without any warning.

Can this be because video memory is getting full?
if that's the case is there any way to solve this?

Running PoE in a 32bit version ( for me it actually works better in 32 then 64) with CSMT, usp10, d3d9x_43, vcrun2013, xact+jun, GLSL=disable and -ns flag

Hope someone might have any idea! <3

You can temp fix this by enabling and disabling Engine Multi-threading in POE graphic options.

I just tried running it on my rx480 in windowed 1600x900. I'm getting about 30-40 FPS without CSMT. With CSMT I'm getting 68-150 FPS, however I still have frame spikes of 500 MS (using F1 HUD stats). I have not done any optimization besides the CSMT checkbox in winecfg. I am also running Gnome via X-session (not using XWayland which is default in Fedora these days) and not using PoL either.

radeontop (https://github.com/clbr/radeontop) shows my GPU averages around 55% usage and does not go over 70% usage, so wine/my-configuration still has some room for improvement.

I would love to game in Linux, but 99% of the time I play games in Windows.

Hello folks,

I recently had an accident with water damage in my apratment and now I'm left with my fathers old Linux Laptop (which he still uses from time to time). Nonetheless I know this is going to be hitting a dead horse but I can't get poe to work with wine.

The game itself runs bit I have no graphics at all. The intor video works and the loading scenes are fine but apart from that I basicly dont see any motional graphics, just a grey/white screen.

That is basicly how it looks like

What I have tried so far

- run with winetricks usp10 d3dx9_36 vcrun2010 riched20

Since I'm pretty new to all this linux stuff I'd appreciate if you don't use any common abreviations.

Thanks in advance for any kind of support.

It's most likely your card's problem due to driver support, or you misplayed some wineCFG registry.

Few things you could try:

1. Select the integrated graphics card on the CPU as the primary passthrough. It worked for me last year on a single chip laptop with SkyLake, but it's good enough for Hardcore playstyle - you have to be extra careful... it takes very long to load areas and has drops occasionally! Though I think it's more to do with PoE's intensive Graphics requirement and some quirky codes with RNG and maze generation due to the driver support on Linux now being very good.

2. sudo apt-get purge wine* playonlinux* -y
Force a complete reinstalled while trying different configuration. (warning: large bandwidth required!)

3. Use clonezilla to clone a Windows 7 or Windows 10 to a spare SSD/M.2 drive and play from there, using USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 cable adapter if you have no internal Sata or slot.

Final words:

AMD/Ryzen/R-cards in general should work fine, a friend of mine plays all his game with WINE or VGA virtualization having only AMD products but his build is quite expensive.

Play around the path of exile client option settings; try DX9 instead of DX9ex and the Anisotropic settings, turn off multi-thread, dynamic resolution, lot's of thing to try

Ah! What that post failed to mention is every time you start the game you have to do these steps:

1. start PlayOnLinux
2. press on the Configure button
3. (Select poe 64 drive)
4. Goto Miscellaneous Tab
5. press on Run a .exe file in this virtual drive:

run this:

/home/?/PlayOnLinux's virtual drives/poe/drive_?/Program Files (x86)/Grinding Gear Games/Path of Exile/PathOfExile_x64.exe

? as placement for whatever your username and drive letter is!

Remember to restart the client every few hours (2-3)
The first few minutes you start the game for the first time in the session is a bit laggy but it settles down very quickly, just run around town
But no more leaving the client on all night for trading :P

Good luck and happy new year

Guys, tons of useful information here, it seems that ARCH derivates are having issues with memory leak and when process reaches ~4.1GB of allocated virtual memory, it crashes. This can be rather fast when not yet on maps and changing zones frequently. Also it seems game performs slightly better on NVIDIA GPUs compared to AMD.

Do we have any tips/workarounds how to get memory consumption under control? I play with minimal settings already and only thing that comes to my mind to limit/slow memory usage is play with --nosound, which I really don't like (you want to hear that meaty sound of exalt dropping, right?).

Anything else we can experiment with?

PS: seems like NVIDIA GPU + Ubuntu of sort is safest bet now, right? Damn me, I returned that last availabe 1060 6GB to shop and they are no more avaiable here :S.
