Does armor and/or resistance affect energy shield?

So title is my question. If i take passive Chaos Inoculation will it be pointless to level up my armor or resistances?

I have never used CI but I do know you need a LOT of ES to use it. That being said, I do believe armor still mitigates dmg to ES and resistances are definitely just as important...but I believe most CI use involves pure ES gear with as much bonus to ES as possible.

Hybrid armor builds are hard enough with tons of life simply because of the math used for armor reducing dmg.

It isn't pointless, with ES all your other defenses work like normal, the only difference is ES gets removed before your health at damage taking stage.

As to how difficult is it to get a meaningful amount of other defenses while wearing high-ES gear... that's another story.

If you are a pure ES/Mage I think the defense you can stack the best is BLOCK and resistances.

Block is certainly underrated, however, it becomes better the more you get.

As witch you can easily grab ~20% increased block chance and you shield can provide 36%, so you can easily achive 50+% Blockchance.
Neither armor nor evasion gives you so much defense for so little investment.

Also you have a 50% chance to not receive a "blockstun" because of ES.
