The "clackity" noise is from bottoming out the keys rather than the felt "click" of a typing switch's action (some switches have more audible click than others, see the guides I linked).
After getting used to the feel, you really don't bottom out the keys while you're typing. You feel the collapse, then begin to lift your finger. Typing with most mechanical keyboards becomes much quieter than the cheap keyboards, the tactile response helps exercise control over the key movement. If you have uncoordinated ham hands and can't keep from slamming the keys to the backplane each letter, there are rubber O-ring Switch Dampeners or foam Soft-Landing Pads. |
