HP % Nodes Question!

In Act 3 Cruel now, kinda need a little bit more HP. Got 1 skill point to use so I took an 8% Increased Maximum Life node and I felt that the amount it added was less than I expected. So I refunded a skill point from somewhere else in my passive tree and took the next node, for another 8% Increased Maximum Life and still was very underwhelmed by how much it added.

How does % Max Life calculated?

I had 1302 HP before, and taking 8% HP I got up to 1352 (can't remember EXACTLY), then I took another 8% and my HP is now at 1407.

From my calculation :

1302HP * 1.08 = 1406
1406HP * 1.08 = 1518

Is this not correct? How else is HP calculated since it specifically says Increased "Maximum Life", shouldn't it add on, like compound interest, with the % increase based on current maximum?

It adds 8% to your base health. 2 nodes will add 16%.

Its a percentage off of your base HP. If you have previous percentages...then the number may be misleading.

Example.
You have 100 HP. Put a skill at level 5 for 8% more. You now have 108HP.

However later on (from what I gather) if you add another 8% its based off the base HP of 100. Until you do Bandit Quests (+40 base) etc.

Base health being health that is purely from gear and not including ANY health nodes at all? How is that "Maximum Life"?? Totally unclear description on the skill page.. Wasted 3 respec points to double check if the numbers were fooling me.

Is this really intended behaviour?

Your life is calculated as

(flat life) * (1+ increased life bonus)

Different sources of flat life (50 life, +6 every level-up is your 'base', but there are also item mods, Oak's reward, passives etc giving flat life) add together. Different sources of increased life also add together. So if you have a total of 1000 flat life and 80% increased life (say from ten 8% life passives), then your life total ends up as 1800.

The 8% is added to your base life. That 1302 you started with isn't your base life (you have other life nodes already, as well as some strength)

So the calculation is closer to:

(Base Life + all life increases from items + life from allying with oak (if applicable) ) * Total % life bonus

I actually don't recall if the bonus from strength is a flat increase (5 strength = 1 life), or if it is a percent (5 strength = 1% life). Flat increase would go to your base, percent would be included in the multiplier
In Wraeclast, if someone tries to kill you... you just kill them right back.

Base health means base health, the lowest you can have. Meaning no gear on.

Shouldn't it say Base Life instead of Maximum Life? Base life is understandable, the HP you have totally naked, but Maximum Life is a very deliberate choice of words to mean the same thing as Base Life... In this case, HP nodes are pretty crap for any class that doesn't gear for tonnes and tonnes of HP..

I assume it is intended. Since there are so many % nodes....it would make some pretty OP HP stacking if there were not a base. The real decision you have to make is how to add base (flat) life to your build to reap more reward for your % nodes.
Edit: deleted. Didn't look right.

My Ring gives +30 HP. I have HP% nodes worth of 154% and get 75HP out of the Ring. Sounds legit.
