Jewelers Orb Question

I used my first few jewelers orbs the other night. The item I used it on was chestpeice with 3 connected slots, and 1 independent slot.

The first orb I used removed the independent slot, now 3 connected slots remained
The second orb removed one of the connected slots, two connected slots remained
The third orb removed an additional connected slot, all that was left was one independent slot

At this point I just stopped u sing jewelers orb. Is this just luck of the draw that each progressive orb removed a slot? I thought it randomized the number of slots an item has.

It does randomize the slots, you were just very unlucky =(

Thanks for clarifying. I had another question along the same lines, only with the orb of fusing. It too, seemed to remove more gem links than it created. Does orb of fusing randomly connect or unconnect gem slots?

Ha ha, sorry to laugh but I feel your pain on this. Albeit my misfortune was during closed beta so didn't really lose out.
I was trying to add a fourth socket to a three socket bow which were all connected. I used up about 5 jeweller's orbs and about 5 orbs of fusing to end up with a bow with only two sockets with no connection. I was gutted :)

Yeah, same thing, it can add OR remove links randomly.
