5 second Ping Flatlines

This is usually fixed for me by resetting my router, but not this time. Have already lost 2 Invasion characters to it and am repeatedly facing unnecessary risk, so i've had enough. Time for GGG to wave the magic wand and tell me where the problem is!

I'll keep WinMTR running so i can get you a sample where the ping flatlines, and reply to the thread with it when i do.

And a snapshot one minute later since i wasn't sure if i need to let it run 1 minute after a flatline:

First one looked fine, second and third one is bad, starting from the router with 58% packet loss, second hop is showing 1k ms and it all carries through to the server.

First off i would try turning off the router for a minute the powering it back up...run the test again and see if the same problem occurs, if it does it's most likely a faulty router.

I see, thanks for the help. Still happening. So it's definitely the router then? Guess i have to contact my ISP for a new one - lasted a little under 2 years.

It would seem to be, there is definitely a problem there BUT it could also be masking problems further down the line which is why i asked for you to run it again after restarting it...usually though it's just as simple as resetting the router.

To be clear, i did restart it the way you instructed. I had reset it previously in fact, but did the full 1 minute thing after you said to. Problem is still occurring.

Ahh, then yeah...you would need to contact your ISP.

Let's try this one. Different router, wireless. From my limited understanding, everything looks fine except that 2nd line... What does it mean?

the second line is not a problem necessarily. Just means it wasn't able to resolve the hop, so it wasn't able to ping it. sometimes that's normal for some networks.

The problem I see however is at the 3rd hop and down, you have a max ping of over 1.6 seconds. That's not good, and something related to your ISP considering the first hop doesn't show that problem. So it COULD be an issue between the first and second hop (which we can't see because the second hop doesn't respond), or it could be between the second and third hop.

Hard to tell for sure. Only your ISP would be able to assist you.
It looks like the original problem might not be the router. I have a new router coming in the mail, but i suspect that won't make a difference.

What i've noticed is that every ~hour when my mini-fridge makes a sound, like it's starting up some kind of cooling thing, all my internet connections reset on my laptop. I see the icon change in my taskbar, like it goes off, then reconnects. This is where i get a 4-7 second ping flatline, as in post #1-2.

WTF? Anyone seen this kind of thing before?
