Are mods being overly strict now?
Hi there,
Please do not derail the thread with off topic and hostile replies. Further posts of this type will be removed and the player may be placed on probation. Regards, Simon GGG Support No longer works at GGG

Hey guys,
Thanks for sharing your feedback about moderation issues. I'm not able to discuss the actions we have taken in regards to specific players publicly so I'm not able to outline the reasoning behind some of the probations that have been mentioned here. If you are concerned about any of your posts that have been moderated and would like to discuss these further, please feel free to contact us at support@grindinggear.com or alternatively you can message me privately and we will be happy to go over these with you. There seems to be some mixed perspectives about the approach to moderation in this thread. I would be interested to know more about what you would like to see here in terms of moderation approach and how you feel these would benefit the forums and community as a whole. If you have any ideas or feedback on alternative methods that you think could be used, it would be great if you would share these. Please keep your comments constructive and on topic and we will be happy to look into these further.
" Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I don't think that a forum without any moderation would be viable. A forum full of unfettered venting would inhibit players from acquiring any help or information that they were looking for on the forum as well as make it difficult for players to have practical discussions about the game and feedback they may have. If you have any further suggestions please let us know.
" It's an interesting idea. However, if every topic was permitted to be posted there then it would somewhat render the other indexes redundant. It's important to have separate indexes for a few reasons. The main reasons being that it makes it more accessible to players who are seeking particular information or assistance, and also so that the development team are able to quickly find feedback/issues that pertain to their job roles.
" I can see where you're coming from. The issue we run into with offering any kind of unmoderated sub-forum or index is that there would inevitably be some kind of moderation that is required. Since the game is currently under an R16 rating by New Zealand Censorship Standards, this means that we could not permit any R18 content on the forums, such as pornography and other explicit content. Even if we were to permit hateful comments or personal attacks in a specific allocated forum, it would still need to be moderated and could not be offered as a truly unmoderated section.
" Earlier in this thread I have outlined a few of the reasons why these types of separate indexes are necessary. We try to encourage users to utilize these sections so that the sections are working effectively. You may notice that the new forum indexes reflects this as well. It's also a cyclic issue. If more users post in General Discussion, fewer people visit the other indexes. If fewer people visit other indexes, then more users posts in General. We try to vigilantly move posts to more appropriate sections to continue their usage and to make sure information is in its appropriate place. Please be mindful that the description on General Discussion states that it is for thread topics that are related to Path of Exile but have no more appropriate index.
" We are looking at changing the drop down menu soon. It will likely still include General Discussion but will also include other relevant indexes as well. I'm unable to speculate as to when this may be implemented but I agree that it would be helpful. " I can see where you might be coming from with this but it does somewhat imply that we act on issues simply because they were reported, but that is not the case. We do receive a lot of reports but we only act on issues that we feel have infringed on our Forum Guidelines or Terms of Use in some way. In this sense, it is not really possible to abuse the report options available.
Hey guys,
Thanks so much for your feedback about the forums. I think in summary the feedback is as follows: - Remove General Discussion from the drop down menu - Players feel that moderation actions could be more consistent - Some feel that probation durations should match the post and not the post history - Suggested 'Flame Forum' or 'Moderation free zone' If there's anything I've missed, or you have any further suggestions please let me know! In the meantime, please do not contribute to the derailment of this thread with hostile/off topic arguments. The feedback so far has been really interesting and I would be loath to close the thread.
" I understand that this may be frustrating. It has also been mentioned by other players previously. Unfortunately, it is much more complex than simply allowing the negative feedback. Each alternative way of dealing with these situations comes with its own set of downfalls and is quite complicated to resolve. The current system of dealing with these is in place only to protect innocent players who may be falsely accused of poor trade etiquette. If we were to allow players to accuse others of scamming we would then need to verify each incident of this to be sure that the claim is valid. Unfortunately, we currently do not have the resources to do this. We strongly advise that if a player is trading outside the inbuilt trade system that they only trade with players they explicitly know and trust, or if they are comfortable not having their items returned to them. We are currently working on a new trading system which may make trading somewhat smoother. Chris has made the following comment in regards to this: " |
