"My child is prohibited from playing..."

When it comes down to it some that actually play video games including our parents prohibit their teens from playing games such as Path of Exile for a common reason. Gambling... At first we are obviously taken back a little, but how is such a thing existing in this game? Well as Peter explained it, "the currency that is found is used to chance a favorable outcome, you are essentially gambling away your hard earned currency to better improve your character."

"No matter how you see it this game encourages it, but not by association..."

Surely enough the behemoth casinos from Las Vegas are not conspiring with GGG to get us hooked while our children are young to eventually acquire this dreadful gambling disease. In actuality it's an ingenious plot by GGG to avoid the dreadful Auction Houses that triple A titles failed to implement... Cough... Diablo 3. Instead players are forced to interact with each other creating a sense of community and euphoria when players bargain for your items.

Gambling a deadly disease though no matter how you see it this game encourages it, but not by association it's just how it was made. Maybe parents such as Peter are exaggerating... Though mother and father do know best.

If GGG chickens made an action RPG, what would it be called? Path of Eggxile, a Peck 'n' Slash RPG.
Why was the helmet spluttering? It was a coif.
You don't "get hooked" on gambling. You need to read up on addiction if you're going to start talking about it. Basically, the addict replaces one impulse (like hunger) with another (like success). It's not about what you are exposed to in a game, or when you pull your first drag on a cigarette.

Gambling is addictive. Gambling on PoE is a whole lot more benign to an addict than gambling in a casino would be.

Gambling is not "a deadly disease". To many it's a simple pastime. The deadly disease part is a mental illness, that if left untreated can be deadly. It's not the act of gambling though. It's the disease.

Its not gambling that is the disease. It's the addiction to gambling that is the disease.

see even i can say that is taking the concept to far .

gambling is damaging there is no doubt about that since it is addicting. but i wont go so far as to say in game gambling is deadly.

frustrating? absolutely
will it negativity effect a persons well being ... probably
will it affect them to a massive extent .. no.

the real issue with gambling is not how gambling is morally questionable. rather it is how gambling is ultimately unnecessarily ,clunky and cumbersome and hurts player enjoyment of the game..... in addition to having those negative connotations .

Wtf did I just read? POE has no gambling, it is a ftp game without the possibility of improving your char with money. Wtf is going on? Did someone change the definition of gambling on me? With your logic it also teaches murder, fing nonsense.
Did i get trolled? Ooooo you got me, who da fuq is peter?
Gambling has been deadly to those who didn't pay back the Mafia after they borrowed money. One could also take drug addiction as an example: We have what we call a 'gateway' drug; starting out with a drug that's considered soft-core can lead to abusing ones that are extremely hardcore. Perhaps the gambling system here could be seen as a 'gateway', and I know for a fact that it can lead to other RL problems (a good friend of mine was already a compulsive gambler to begin with; however, despite his attempts to address the issue, being in an environment that reinforces the detrimental proclivity could lead to a degree of greater severity). Nevertheless, as adults we are expected to handle situations as 'adults', but when you are referring to teenagers, many of them are not chemically, mentally, etc. ready/equipped with the tools or same mental process as that of an adult. I know what I am talking about because I have over 15 years of experience working in my field--much of my experience involves working with teenagers, and while parents sometimes know best, sometimes teachers know more; many mothers and fathers of my students would only see them a couple hours or less daily, and I would see some of them during school and after school for torturing/extra curricular activities.
