numerous lag spikes and disconnects

As Drakier has suggested, please post a WinMTR report if you are experiencing any form of connection issue, as we need this information to be able to provide assistance. You can find a guide to using WinMTR here:

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/361292

and please make sure to run it while you are experiencing issues in-game as this will give us the most accurate data.
Here is the WinMTR log. I didn't catch a disconnect but did catch several lag spikes.
Thanks

You sure did. And it appears the lag spikes are coming from within your network (or on your PC).

Take a look at your trace.. your first hop is showing ping times of over 4 seconds.. that's the time it takes to get to your router from your PC. Something isn't right there, and you'll continue to have problems with the game until that is resolved.
Thanks for the reply. My router is supplied by the ISP. I can connect via ethernet cable, and I would think it may help. But I can only do that once in a while. Most times I am downstairs away from the router. What do you suggest as a way to troubleshoot and resolve?

EDIT: I think I can connect my old router to the ISP provided router and connect through the old one instead, using the old one as a access point and ISP device as sort of a bridge. But to be honest I'll have to read up on how to do that.

Since I didn't get an answer to my question above I went to another forum for advice. I am told that the issue is not within my own local network. Rather they tell me the WinMTR log is showing that ae-2-52.edge4.Chicago3.Level3.net & te2-5.bbr01.eq01.chi01.networklayer.com are the bad hops.

Doing a search, it appears this issue with the lag has been going on for sometime. It is not something that popped up overnight. Also appears that whoever administrates the equipment for those hops, has not done or care to do anything to fix it. If you do a search using "bad hop at te2-5.bbr01.eq01.chi01.networklayer.com". You will get all kinds of results of complaints.

I did several tracerts (the first three at 6:40PM Central time and the last two at 10:45 Central time)to US Login for POE and it shows this:

What is wrong with the forums? It keeps truncating my post

Anyway, if it is worth posting the tracerts I can later. But any advice on how to get my traffic rerouted around this or lodge a complaint to get this resolved?

Not sure what information you have the other forum vs what you gave us.. but your Winmtr trace posted here shows high latency on your first hop.

Also the extra traces you posted are mostly useless. tracert only has a single snapshot of the route at the time it was run. Not very useful for diagnostics. Winmtr does the same thing for the route, but goes a step beyond to continually ping so we can see an "over time" picture and not a single snapshot.

Post new winmtr traces that capture your issue and we can see if your conditions have changed.
Hi,

I gave them the same WinMTR I posted here originally. The lag and disconnects were so bad last night I quit the game out of frustration.

I am willing to try to fix anything within my own network. I will get a new USB wireless adapter and see if that helps. My current is internal to my laptop. Plus I have my old Netgear router I used before I went to Uverse. I hear there is a way to hook both the Uverse and my own router together. Any advice on how to do this or a site I can read? I am doing my own research too and will post anything I find.

I will run WinMTR this morning to see if there are different results and post after a while.

Thanks

Hullo!
Same problem, here my log. Logging stopped after disconnect. Every other online-game runs fine.

Everyone in this thread. Please for the love of God, stop playing games over wireless connections. Your wifi will not sustain low latency games like PoE.

You can use 100 meters of cable to get upstairs or across the property. I doubt it would take this much.
