What is the "bad allocation" error?

Happened to me, after a fresh install of windows. I had not installed openAL yet. Installed this (an incredibly small install, btw, no fuss no muss) and the error went away. Dunno' if that's by design, but it's what worked for me.

I installed Open AL. Bad Allocation message went away. I'm now installing the game. TY very much!!!
