Auras for free discussion

Hi, I just wanted to talk about a possibility of maximizing the reduced mana reserved nodes. This discussion includes Mortal Conviction as the other threads use mana as well as life to achieve the amount of auras they want. The scion is chosen because it has the easiest access to all aura reserve reduction nodes with the least amonut of points needed to achieve that goal (this is due to it being in the middle and can expand as she pleases).

Here's the basic scheme of how the tree will look like with nothing else:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgAAA5YOPBGWFHEXLxmKGo8c3B2qJbwnCyftL287KDwtQYdBqkZxVdZZ82BDZOdmnmh0bj1vnnC7cql2CH_GgKSDCZMnlKCbtayqtAy3PsAawzrE9sauykrYTdkT2mLfv-GI89322vcy-Ov56PrS-wn-SQ==

Now, how you branch off or reach that point is completely up to the user, but there's a base for variance to everything (as long as it's 1H, the key item is prism guardian). The point of this discussion is to find out what auras are worth it for the remaining amount of your life.

Here are the items that will help to reduce the auras to minimum cost:

Prism Guardian
Alpha Howl

Prism Guardian basically allows 3 auras to be free since it's over-reserved with all the nodes:
Passives: 40(Mortal Conviction)+16(Sovereignty)+5(Influence)+5(Leadership)+5(random node beside Mortal Conviction)+15(Charisma)=86%+25% (Prism Guardian) = 111%

But I haven't been able to confirm about this yet.

Also, taking from the same math, Alpha Howl will allow 94%(86+8) less reserved mana...which means 3.6% for 60% auras and 2.4% for 40% auras. That is before applying Reduced mana gem (but would it even be necessary at that point?). So basically we spend 9-15% of our life to have 4 more auras, which on paper sounds reasonable.

Now the question is: What auras should be used?
Offensive(60%): Hatred, Wrath, Anger, Haste
Defensive(60%): Grace, Determination, Discipline
Defensive(40%): Purity of X, Vitality
Misc: Clarity, Tempest Shield

And since we're using blood magic in order to get to Mortal Conviction, we are discarding Clarity (unless you want to run it to be a bro for others,it's less than 100 life anyway since 440[level 20]x 0.14 = 61.6 hp). Tempest shield should be 3.5% life (25 x 0.14 or it will be 1.5% of life if you place it on alpha howl), but would it really be necessary?

Onto the main discussions:
If we're going melee,is it best to run all 3 defensive auras for free(best if you go iron reflexes) while running purity of Xs on alpha howl? (note,if you hit the cap without the auras, just go offensive auras or tempest shield)

And what would the optimal setup be if we're going wands?(since that's the only ranged I can think of other than EK)

Edit: Confirmed that tempest shield does have the reduced mana reserved applications.
Edit 2: Changed the title to be more catchy.

This is very interesting indeed. Can anyone confirm if the auras ran in the prism guardian are in fact free with this build?
Your calculations are wrong. Mortal Conviction states it is 40% less mana reserved. Your other standard aura nodes around the tree are X% reduced mana reserved. So all aura nodes reduction would be stacked additively to each other (including Alpha/Prism's respective reduction) before multiplying a factor of 0.6 (Mortal Conviction) to it.

For example, for a 40% reservation (standard bulk) aura:

Assuming you took all reduced aura mana reservation nodes: 46% reduced
Alpha Howl: 8% reduced
Prism Guardian: 25% reduced
Mortal Conviction: 40% less mana reserved

Total reduction with Alpha Howl: 54%
Total reduction with Prism Guardian: 71%
Total reduction with Alpha Howl + Prism Guardian: 79%

Cost of 40% aura on Alpha: 40% * (100-54)/100 * (100-40)/100 = 11.04%
Cost of 40% aura on Prism: 40% * (100-71)/100 * (100-40)/100 = 6.96%
Cost of 40% aura on Alpha+Prism: 40% * (100-79)/100 * (100-40)/100 = 5.04%

You can doublecheck the underlined figures with the wiki calculations at the bottom of http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Aura

Since they used Level 20 Reduced Mana gem and no Mortal Conviction,
- X% / (MC 40%Red.) * (L20 RM):
5.04% / (100-40)/100 * (71/100) = 5.964% (double checked)
Ah,thanks for clearing that up...guess mortal conviction isn't entirely worth it at all then.
