Welcome to the Community!
The best advice I can give you is don't forget you'll need defense as you level up your character, most work towards damage as they level their first build and then hit a brick wall at later difficulties because they're constantly dying :) | |

And defense doesn't strictly mean armour! Search the forums for threads on the game mechanics before you start to seriously build a char.

I'd really start playing a bit first, Knowing that your first char might be a bad one. Later on, You can start reading some things on the forums and such to know how to do it better next time around. Playing a dual-wielding swordsman of some kind.
