Crossbows

Why? What would make crossbows different? What do they bring to the game?

Would they have different skill limitations to bows? Because that system sucks for melee.

Would they just be identical to bows but slower and higher damage? Guess what, there is already that kind of variety among the base bow types, and the slower higher damage ones tend to get ignored in favour of the faster ones.

Or are you talking about 1-handed "hand crossbows", which.....would basically be wands without the spell damage?

It would make more sense to add crossbow skin mtx for bows and/or wands, than it would to add a new base weapon type.

now thats a thought, indeed why wouldn't it simply be base crit (5%), high physical, one handed ranged weapon. a duelist, shadow, or scion would be interested in that because shields and easier low end to work on for whatever.
i'd give my left nut to be able to wield a crossbow as 1h plus shield - holy frickin crap.

i think the reason why you can't is because of how completely broken that would become. yup...must be it.

Crossbows have their place as very slow, high crit, high damage 2H weapons.
1H crossbow + shield is a big NO :)

Yeah 1h xbow would be so broken, especially if it was affected by bow nodes.

Tornado Shot with knockback, evasion, dodge, spelldodge, block and spellblock.
sorry for necro-ing crossbow threads XD. Just need to steam-off (lvl63 toon ripped due to PoE client hanging). But sorry, won't happen again.

Note that the limitation system sucks for melee almost entirely because the best skills are available with the best wepaon types.

So basically ST and Daggers. If weapons were balanced and skills were limited in thematic ways with options to fill each use case for skills the limitation aspect would be a non-issue.

On the other hand as long as the best skills are not limited in what types of weapons use them the whole system is screwed like you think it is.
