lesser multiple projectile don't produce additional projectiles

Hi,
my problem is: I got myself a lesser projectile gem for my fireball. I put the gem in a wand with incinerate and fireball. But still I get no additional fireballs. None of the Items above show any signs of "you cannot use this item, because you don't have the right stats or skills..". Switching between items and does also not work. could you link what items you are trying to use it in?

Are the sockets 'linked' (is there literally a link between the two sockets)? The socket with the Support Gem has to be linked to the socket with the Skill Gem to apply its bonus. There can be multiple sockets between the Support and Skill Gems, but all sockets must be linked in one chain.
