Is Lighting strike still viable?

Dont use a sword unless you go for crits or non RT build.

use 2h maces or axes if you want big damage.

it works with 1h+ shield as well, you just need pretty good gear to do decent damage though.

Highest level (that I know of) LS user on HC ladder is a 2h sworder. Named Rilke_ - level 94. That was a month or two ago though - might be more. He posted a thread around that time too, but you'd have to dig for it (GL, the search option on these forums is garbage :P)

You use 2h swords, over maces/axes because they have superior attack speed - and for LS its all about shock-stacking, since you only have 15% attack speed+multistrike is best to stack, only second to physical damage - stat wise.

Okay, and im pretty sure i did the first LS/flicker sword marauder a year+ ago.

Look at the items index, then look at weapon speeds, the highest swords have is 1.3 and the base dps is 106

Now look at axes, an axe has higher avreage damage and flat damage than a sword, the fastest is 1.25 and with base dps of 117

You use 2h swords because they have an accuracy bonus, you use 2h maces because of the stun, you use 2h axes because of large dps

You use 2handed weapon because you want a 8-9k HP pool at end game, and do not want to get 1 shot (going life, and needing Kaom's.)

As for which 2handed weapon to use, a sword is best for LS. Why? Because like I said in my last post, LS is all about shock-stacking and keeping it shocked. If you are not going crit build(which would be sucicide if you aren't CI/VP) then you have a very little chance to shock and need as much attack speed as possible.

Thus making 2h sword the best option.

I was talking about TYPES of 2h,i said nothing about 2h weapons in general and why to use them,I was potining out the use for each type of weapon (axe,sword,mace).Its like you cant understand english or something...

2h axe or mace is the way to go, more dps the same attack speed as a 2h sword, the more damage you do the longer the mob will be shocked, the more damage you do on hit the easier it is to shock mobs and sustain that shock.

I gave you the numbers and why axes and maces are better,i calculted there for you the fastest base weapons from each type, Axes just have more dps and more damage on hit than swords.

They have the same speed, apart from the 0.05 difference between the Despot axe(1.25 APS) and Lion sword(1.3 APS), which is nothing.

i just showed you that 2h swords are not faster....theyre the same speed as other 2h weapons.. but with less damage

Only one that I saw that was fast are Vaal axes, when you sort by highest DPS, that is the only one that is high dps and has a decent attack speed. SO, if you want to craft a vaal axe, then you are correct - but if you're going off of random drops that people sell or drops you get yourself from maps, 2h sword the majority of the time, will be more attack speed and about the same damage, maybe a little less.

vaal axes are the slowest axe man, the fastest is the despot and exomyte axe(1.25 APS), the fastest sword is Lion sword(1.3 APS) a difference of 0.05 APS is negligeable, an axes have higher damage.

axes drop all the time like swords, but people dont have anyone to sell them to so they usually just vendor or keep them in their stash.

Let's take a look at the actual "DPS" since, the site doesn't really give you the actual Damage Per Second, only the "Damage" and "Attack Speed."

Void Axe: Take the top end, which is 119 / 1.2 (attack speed) = 99.166 (Actual DPS)

Sundering Axe: 111.66 (1.2 atkspd)

Vaal Axe: 119.13043 (1.15 atkspd)

As you can tell, Sunder and Vaal are the top contenders, and since Sundering is slightly faster (Which does make a difference, when attack speed is more important to you, then DPS - SINCE, attack speed=more chance to shock, which = more shock stacks, which = more over all DPS for not only you, but your teammates.) But, like I said, Vaal axe is highest level out of the faster axes, and will probably be on that you want to craft :)

Let's take a look at swords.


Looks like it's between Infernal Sword and Lion Sword.

Lion Sword is much lower over all damage, but .2 attack speed faster - faster then all the other 2 handed axes.

Lion Sword's DPS: 79

Infernal Sword: 101.66

Again, I think that the Vaal Axe is superior to any of the weapons listed.

As for the faster attack speed thing, I was just trying to get under your skin :)

I didn't even click the link and look at the weapons. :P

I just assumed that swords were faster, since i always see swords with much higher APS then anything else in game. But as i said above, i really do not think Tooltip dps really plays in to the Lightning Strike DPS since it is all about shocking. That .5, or 1.0 attack speed can really mean the difference. Especially since all of your "Percent" boosts are totaled off of that based attack speed of your weapon. Thus meaning, if you have a .5 attack speed weapon, it will not gain a lot of benefit from a 10% increased attack speed node, compared to a 2.0 attack speed weapon, which will gain 75% more of a bonus from that same passive.
