Molten Shell effect disappears when in different gateway

I play on the American gateway (I live in the US) and I sometimes map with a buddy of mine from australia. Whenever he opens his map (it swaps to his gateway -- australian gateway.) and I cast my molten shell, the effect comes on for 1 second, and disappears, although the buff icon still remains, but the visual effect does not. This only happens whenever I join a different gateway.

What's your latency to the instances on that gateway? The client-side effect on molten shell will be removed if it doesn't receive the buff from the server shortly after the skill executes on the client, because it can only assume you were stunned or otherwise prevented from casting on the server and shouldn't show the effect. If your latency is quite high, that might be triggering here before the buff is serialised to your client.
